Welcome to another Tarot Tuesday!
If you are just joining me, let me explain the inspiration to begin these posts. In Texas, and all across the country, Taco Tuesday is a popular day when Tacos are usually 99 cents. So, I had the inspiration, or Angel nudge as I like to think of it, to create a Tarot Tuesday. Each Tuesday I will post a different Tarot card and give its meaning. I pray and ask for the right card that will bring a universal message.

Today’s card is from the Major Arcana – The Hierophant!
The keywords associated to this card are: Spiritual wisdom, religious beliefs, conformity, tradition, and institutions.
The Hierophant is known as the “Teacher.” He wears three robes, red, white and blue, which are the most common colors on many free country flags. He wears three crowns which represent the three worlds he rules, the conscious, the sub-conscious and the super-conscious. The Hierophant’s task is to pass down his spiritual wisdom to those who seek.
The Hierophant card represents an established set of spiritual values and beliefs and is often correlated with formal doctrines. Before you can discover your own belief systems and make your own choices the Hierophant encourages you to learn the fundamental principles from a trusted source.
Work with a teacher, mentor, or guide to teach you about spiritual values and beliefs in a structured way. He may be an authority or a kind and generous mentor who nurtures your spiritual awareness and helps you access the Divine by understanding the traditions and core principles. You may also undertake a period of formal study as you delve into a subject that has been widely explored and documented.
If you have already mastered a particular field of study, you may be taking on the role of teacher and mentor to others. In this position, you honor and acknowledge your responsibility to share your knowledge in a structured way, one that respects the age-old traditions.
The Hierophant‘s arrival suggests you are following convention and staying within the bounds of a ‘tried and tested’ model. You are not yet willing to go out on a limb or offer any new and innovative ideas. Instead, you adhere to the key principles and rules, such as the golden rule, that you know will lead to a successful result.
The Hierophant may call you to honor family traditions that sit neglected. You are being asked to commit to spiritual practice in its most wholesome form – no customization, no adaptation, no bending the rules. If you have been lacking ritual and tradition, create a regular practice such as daily prayer or saying grace before a meal. Consider exploring your spiritual or religious heritage.
The Hierophant Tarot card often speaks to group membership or being part of an institution. You may enjoy a deep sense of comfort being surrounded by people who have well-established belief systems and explicit values. Finding them may be as significant as exploring a new church or religious group, or as simple as joining a gym or online Tarot community. This card is about identifying with others and a way of thinking that will prompt further learning.
Well, as always, I have no idea how this card will relate to you in your lives. I am not a religious person, although I do adhere to many religious teachings. I believe more in spirituality rather than dogma or churches. So, maybe this card is telling me to be more open? Or maybe it is all about being a part of a community. I’m happy you are joining me here in the #TarotTuesday community and hope that each week there is something that inspires or uplifts you. That is the whole purpose. Thoughts?

An interesting choice, Jan. I’m not religious either so this card always feels a little awkward. I do like the idea of the teacher though. As we enter a new world, learning and teaching and accessing wisdom is going to be important. Something to contemplate. <3

I grew up in a very religious home, but as an adult I’m more spiritual than I am religious. I also read and studied the Bible and other religious books throughout my life, so I know a lot about religions, but I don’t follow any. I follow the golden rule and treat others the way I would like to be treated, and I enjoy being kind. The Hierophant wears three crowns, three garments, the outer garment is adorned with three crosses, and he holds a scepter with three horizontal bars going through it. I think it’s time that we as a nation return to our teachings and the things that worked in the past. There are a lot of beliefs out there that want to move us away from what we know. Maybe that’s what this card is about. I don’t know.

Beautifully expressed, Yvette. We are all here for a reason and I believe with all my heart, that reason is to return to the source which created us. And, it cannot happen within one lifetime. I agree that so many on this earth have lost sight of their purpose and are consumed with selfishness and superiority. If only we could all get a glimpse of who we truly are. Although I was raised Catholic and was an altar girl for a couple of years, I do not follow organized religion. As several have mentioned, I found the hypocrisy within the church, especially when it comes to the amount of money they make. I am, however, very spiritual.
I see this card as a notice to people to venture within to ask whether their thoughts/actions/words truly reflect the morals/values that they have been taught by their religion/spiritual teachings. I believe the people of our nation/world has lost their purpose/path in life. This card, to me, says that they need to let go of the newly adopted mindset of superiority, self-righteousness, and divisiveness and return to the traditional blessings of unity, peace, and love.
For me, I have been learning more about mindfulness and absorbing the teachings of great mindfulness teachers. So, the card speaks to me personally as well. 😊

Super reading, Jan. I think a lot of folks are struggling as their basic beliefs are being tested through everyday living. Their are some truths that can stand a test or two and others that wither under a strain. I think the card says it is okay to let go of those that can’t make the cut and firmly grasp those truths that fortify your life.Thanks

Every Tuesday, my jaw drops… Last weekend, as part of my phytotherapy training, we spent the time in the woods to discover, define, and learn more about the plants. This time, we learned more about the spiritual background, like natural spirits, their presence, and their purposes. I could feel them clearly when even I couldn’t see them. But I was diving in deeply and found back to a place I used to know better when I had more time a few years ago. Definitely, spiritual guidance and teaching to take me back to where I feel home.
That is so beautiful, Erika. The Native Americans were 100% tuned into Nature Spirits. They based their very existence on the powers, beauty, and abundance of nature. I’m a combination of religious and spiritual. I have issues with man-made doctrine, but I still love the church. My core spiritual beliefs are steadfast and strong, so I tend to embrace those and overlook doctrine. When I was a teenager I did a lot of seeking and exploring, but never looked back once discovering my faith. I so need that in my life!
I think what you described, Mae could fit many. I was raised in the church – a free-holiness church. And I have a strong foundation of faith and belief. The thing that turned me against organized religion was the hypocrisy I saw and how a person would be judged and shunned if they weren’t dressed just right or if they smelled a little funny or maybe were mentally show. To me, that did not represent the love and compassion that Jesus taught. So I searched outside the Christian church and studied Eastern religion for ten years. That gave me a very diversified spiritual base to go from and I still rely on it heavily. Now, I find the peace, love, and wisdom inside myself that I need to move through this crazy life. This card hit home, Jan. I’ve been searching, going back to traditional and being torn with my own personal beliefs. I finally set that aside for now and decided to embrace love and let go of fear and anger. My ego wasnt happy letting go of some justifed anger either. I have been going back to exploring and reading again. I enjoy learning about different beliefs and then finding my way from there.

I really like this card, Jan. I grew up in church with a father as a preacher, so religion has always been a foundation for me. Still is, of course, but the older I get, the more fascinated I am by other teachings and spirituality. I’m definitely more open to new possibilities and ideas. As for being part of a community… I feel it’s so important to find where you belong, to open yourself to what the world offers you. It allows you to find your truth, as Gwen said. Like you, Marlena, I grew up in a strict religious household. When I was in my very early twenties, I had the opportunity to explore Eastern religions and that opened a whole new world to me. I believe that all the sacred teachings hold truths and we simply have to find them. You are right about finding a community where you belong with like-minded people. I am a religious person, and I’ve missed the community aspect of worship since church closed for social distancing. They reopened a few weeks ago, but I haven’t returned because masks are required and with my asthma, it’s too difficult to restrict my breathing for that long. That’s what the card made me think of. What message I should take from it, though, I have no idea.

Hi, Staci. What I got as I read your comment was for you to rely on alternative methods for your spiritual needs. Most churches are doing online streaming and that might be one option. I have been watching the services on television. Haven’t missed a week. It’s nice but not the same. There’s something about being there in person with others that can’t be matched. I think I’m just tired of 2020. But most of us are, so…
