Welcome to another Tarot Tuesday!
If you are just joining me, let me explain the inspiration to begin these posts. In Texas, and all across the country, Taco Tuesday is a popular day when Tacos are usually 99 cents. So, I had the inspiration, or Angel nudge as I like to think of it, to create a Tarot Tuesday. Each Tuesday I will post a different Tarot card and give its meaning. I pray and ask for the right card that will bring a universal message.
I created a short video to demonstrate how I pull the card for the posts. If you’re interested, here’s a LINK.
Today’s card is the SEVEN OF CUPS
The keywords for the Seven of Cups are: Opportunities, choices, wishful thinking, and illusion.
In the Seven of Cups, a man stands before seven cups filled with various gifts. Some cups bear desirable gifts such as jewels and a wreath of victory. But others hold gifts that are not gifts at all; instead, they are curses, such as the snake or dragon. The clouds and the cups symbolize the man’s wishes and dreams, and the different gifts inside suggest that you need to be careful what you wish for as not everything is as it seems. Choices need to be made, but in doing so, you must go beyond illusion and allure, and instead focus on what’s right for you.
The Seven of Cups is a card of new opportunities, choices, and at times, illusion. You have many options and opportunities from which you can choose. But be careful to avoid illusion and unrealistic ideals. An opportunity with promises of more money, more fame, or more power may sound appealing, but as you look deeper into what is on offer, you may realize it’s not everything it’s cracked up to be. Evaluate your options and dig below the surface to discover what’s involved with each choice.
Often, the Seven of Cups can be a sign of wishful thinking and projecting into the future about what you would like to create, rather than taking action here in the present to make it happen. For example, you may wish for a fitter, more healthy body, until it’s time to get out there and exercise. Or you might wish for a successful business fueled by passive income, but you’re not ready and willing to put in the hard work now to enjoy the fruits of your labor later. If you spend most of your time wishing but not doing the work, then it’s time to choose just one thing and make it happen.
You may find that your ideas are not grounded in reality. Your plans might sound fabulous in your imagination, but when it comes to implementing them, you may realize they do not work in the real world.
The Seven of Cups may be a sign of ‘shiny object syndrome’, where you keep finding the ‘next big thing’ but fail to see any of those new opportunities through to the end. When you are constantly in the idea phase, you miss the chance to bring your designs into fruition. Again, now is a time to focus on the one thing that will move you closer to your goal; resist the temptation to get side-tracked with other ideas as they arise. If need be, note your ideas as they come up, but stay focused on the one thing you’re doing.
This card is inviting you to move out of the ideas and options phase and choose. Each will have its pros and cons – it’s up to you to make sure that the option you select is in alignment with your purpose and your Highest Good – even if you feel somewhat paralyzed by the options available to you.
This card carries such deep wisdom that can apply to many situations, circumstances and opportunities in life. For me, the message is to stay grounded and on task. Getting sidetracked can lead to procrastination, which can lead to abandonment of a dream or project. So, we must stay focused! What say you?
As always, thank you for joining me! See you next Tuesday for another inspiring message from the Universe via the Tarot Cards!
I use the Rider-Waite Radiance deck and BiddyTarot.com for interpretation
Since my launch starts today, I’m going to sit back and see what happens with this card, Jan. Wishful thinking and illusion or plans and implementation. Probably both! Lol. Great pick!
Lol, Diana! Congrats on the launch!! Here’s wishing you much success!
Thanks, Jan. 😀
This is a fascinating card, Jan. For me, it would mean that what you wish for often doesn’t turn out to be what you expected. For example, wishing for a promotion at work and working for it, can turn out to be a disaster to your home life if all your time is sucked up by work.
That’s a great example, Robbie. Things are not always as they seem! Thanks for stopping by!
Definitely a time for staying on task and not losing our focus. So many troubling things going on between storms, fires, and viruses. Thanks for sharing this reading, Jan 🙂
So very true, Harmony! There is so much around to distract us on top of all the shiny things vying for our attention! Thank you for stopping by!
This is one of your best readings, Jan. I often fall into the Shiney Object Syndrome. Some of it is about wanting to make up for lost time or exploring a new idea or technology without completing past projects. The reading is spot on in that regard: at some point, we must move out of the ideas and options phase and choose.
Thank you for your comment, Rob! Life is all about choices and being willing to live with the fallout from our choices. That’s how we learn, grow, and become better humans. I think we’re all drawn by the shiny objects. We live in a world where we are constantly bombarded with all sorts of stimulus and the shinier, the more appealing. I’m thrilled you enjoyed the reading this week! Thanks for stopping by!
There’s an expression that rings through for me with this reading. ‘When the going gets tough, the tough get going.’ There are so many things around us to cause distraction, and it becomes so very easy to procrastinate. I need to avoid the shiny things syndrome and refocus. Great reading, Jan. Thanks for sharing it. 😊
Lol, Soooz. It’s very easy to procrastinate and get off track. Sometimes, getting off track is exactly what we need. I think the key is to stay grounded and tuned into our intuition. Thank you so much for stopping by and leaving a comment!
My pleasure, Jan. 😊
Hi, Jan! I love what you said about the ‘shiny object syndrome.’ I’ve seen this a lot among aspiring writers on social media, but I didn’t know what name to give it. I’ve known people who for years have talked about writing a book but they keep getting sidetracked by different ideas and never actually finish anything. They’re stuck in the idea phase. You’re right, it’s so important to stay focused on one thing and see it through to the end.
Many new ideas come to me as I work on a book. I like to write these ideas down in my notes for a later time, but I stay focused on the task at hand. You have to keep your eyes on the prize. Thanks for the reading! <3 xo
You made a wonderful point here, Vashti. When ideas come, it is our obligation to our muse to at least jot down some notes. But that doesn’t mean we abandon what we’re working on to satisfy the creative urge. If the story is good enough, it will still be there when we get back to our notes. 🙂 Thank you so much for stopping by. I appreciate your insight!
That’s a very interesting and intriguing card. It shows that we can reach out for the stars but only as far as our feet still touch the ground.
I love your perspective on it, Erika. Keeping grounded is important while we dream. Thank you for stopping by!
Right! It is about the balance!
I like your interpretation of staying on task. Very important now. Thanks, Jan
It certainly is for me, John. My plate is so full, if I don’t stay on task, I’ll for sure spill something. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!
Hahaha. Jan. You are a busy one for sure.
Fair warning… Taken! <3
Me too, Bette! Thanks for stopping by!

Things aren’t what they seem resonated with me. I need to focus and work for what I want and ignor the chatter. Hard to do.
You are so right, Denise. It is hard to ignore the chatter around us. But, focusing on what is real is important while we spend some time dreaming is pure magic! Thanks for stopping by!
I agree with your analysis. Right now, I am neck-deep in learning a new online teaching platform while trying to also prepare my three different subject areas while also…. I need to remind myself to stay grounded and focus only on what is in front of me. Otherwise, I will accomplish nothing. Deep breath… Lol!
Exactly, Yvette. Deep breath is RIGHT! I am in somewhat the same boat with having to learn so many new online things to help my little granddaughters with virtual school. It’s a challenge and some days it really kicks my butt! I have to try and stay grounded and not sweat the small stuff. I am completely exhausted at the end of every day. Thank you for stopping by!
There are so many “shiny objects” clamoring for our attention, it can be easy to get sidetracked and abandon a new project. We need to hang onto the inspiration and love that first drew us to an idea/project. That can be hard when the going gets tough, but I agree we need to stay focused. Thanks for the reminder, Jan!
Oh yes, the shiny objects! They’re all around clamoring. I agree about hanging onto the inspiration and love that first drew us to an idea or project. That’s so true! Staying focused these days is a challenge. Thank you for stopping by!
All I’ve got is The Rolling Stones. “You can’t always get what you want…”
Yep! But, if you try real hard, you can get what you need. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by, Craig!
Fantastic reading, Jan. It’s always our choice, isn’t it? All of us tend to blame others or karma or whatever, but within each circumstance rests a choice that only we can make. Thank you, Jan, for the beautiful reading and the reminder. ♥
Thank you, dear Gwen. Yes, as much as we might not want the responsibility, it is always our choice. And often, there are shiny objects (as Mae said) vying for our attention, screaming, “Choose me!” Our intuition will never fail us! Thank you so much for your beautiful comment!
