Welcome back as we continue our study of the Elder Futhark Script Runes!
Today, we continue on in the Hagal’s Aett Runes with Jera (Yair-ah)
Jera is the rune of harvest and of the seasonal year, which is ever turning. Jera signifies that each season of a cycle has its purpose, and so it also reminds us that the attainment of goals often takes time. A seed planted in spring must be given time to grow, and the resulting plant can only be harvested in its proper time. But provided you have put the necessary work into preparing the soil, tending the crops, and reaping the harvest, Jera indicates that your efforts will be successful.
As the fourth rune in Hagal’s Aett, Jera follows the series of three runes that focused on obstacles. If you have been dealing with adversity, Jera emerges as a positive sign that troubles are receding, and you are moving into a fortuitous time of forward activity. This is a rune for reaping rewards for hard work and perseverance.
It can indicate prosperity and abundance, success in business, or some other form of payoff for your efforts. Celebrate your good fortune, appreciate the joys of your current circumstances and strengthen your hopes and plans for the future.
Don’t rest on your laurels too long, however. Just as the work of preparing for winter must follow close on the heels of the harvest celebrations, the need for careful resourcefulness and quiet patience will come around again in due time. This is simply the natural cyclical order of life. Understanding this helps you to flow with circumstances rather than resisting them.
It can also represent a wedding and fertility.
At any rate, Jera symbolizes the union of opposites. The sun rises. The sun goes down – the meeting points of night and day. In this context, you are advised to acknowledge any adversity you are, or have been experiencing, will ultimately contribute to your growth – you are who you are because of the lessons life has taught you.
Birthdates associated with Jera – December 13 to December 28.

Hi, Jan, as always, such an interesting post. This rune seems like it is a sign that we must have patience to see our efforts come to fruition. True confession: I am terrible at patience! So this rune is a good one for me!
Lol, Maura Beth. You and me both. Patience is not my strong suit. 🙂 Thank you for stopping by and congratulations on your new book release! I wish you much success!!
Thank you, Jan! I appreciate that!
Hmm…interesting rune. Could this be some are at the crossroads? Thanks, Jan. I so enjoy these posts.
Hi, Mary. I really like this rune because it blends opposites – perfect for writing stories. 🙂 I don’t see it as a crossroads rune, but more of a planting seeds, nurturing, and harvesting rune. Thank you for stopping by! I’m glad you are enjoying our journey through the runes!
This rune is serious business. Thanks for the view of it, Jan
I’m happy to share, John. Thanks for stopping by!

HI Jan, this is a great rune. I hope for me it means success with my book tour. I hope you are well and enjoying good spring weather.
I wish you tons of success, Robbie! Thank you for stopping by!
This seems to be another rune which message is kind of a happy ending. Or it represents a bit of the saying: “In the end, all is well. If it is not well, it is not the end.”
Well-said, Erika. If it is not well, keep planting, nurturing, and then get ready to harvest! Thank you for stopping by!
Right, it is a reminder AND outlook to a reward that your action pays off.
This sounds like a pretty cool rune. I love the union of opposites, and your last line life lessons and growth says it all!
I did too, Mae. Just like a romance novel. 🙂 I’m glad you enjoyed the post. Thank you so much for stopping by! Have a great day!
Your reading is perfect for me, Jan. I’m in the process of moving to an unknown area. All my moves over the years provided a powerful and lasting impact. Your reflection helps me see this truth and face this next hurdle. 😊
You are definitely in the process of writing a new chapter, dear Gwen. It’s interesting to me that even though these rune posts are only a study of each rune and not a reading, how they can apply to so many. I’m glad you enjoyed the post and wish you smooth sailing ahead as you find your next home! Hugs!
Fantastic post, Jan! I completely agree the last sentence. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you, Jill. It is so true. I appreciate you stopping by and leaving a comment!
Well, this couldn’t be more appropriate for me. I’m busy getting ready for my daughter’s wedding—in less than two weeks! Great post, Jan.
I actually thought about you, Staci, when I was creating the post. Yes. It fits you for sure. Thank you for stopping by!
Aww. Thanks for thinking of us!
I love that last line, Jan. We are who we are because of the life lessons we’ve been taught, even when we haven’t wanted them. And sometimes, we are taught those lessons repeatedly because we don’t learn from them the first time. I also love that this rune holds the idea that patience is needed and hard work pays off. Great post, Jan. 🙂
Thank you, Yvette. It is so true that if we’d chosen a different path in life, we wouldn’t be who we are today. And you are so right about those lessons that we keep having to repeat because we don’t learn them the first time. I’ve had many. I’m so glad you enjoyed the post! Thank you for stopping by and leaving a comment!
