Welcome back for another look at the mystical and magical runes from the Elder Futhark Script.
Today’s Rune is Sowilo (so-we-lah).
The keywords associated with this rune are: light, energy, good health and success. What a great rune to get in any reading at any time!
Sowilo is the rune of the Sun and the life-sustaining light it provides. It represents the light of day where all is illuminated and there is no darkness to obscure our vision. It is the rune of the light’s victory over the dark and can bring much needed clarity and healing to a situation.
Sowilo’s verse in the Anglo-Saxon rune poem describes the sun as “a joy in the hopes of seafarers,” keeping the sailors’ spirits up as they move across the water toward a safe landing. This rune is telling you that you are surrounded by warmth and light. Success, good health and joy are yours if you allow yourself to have them, as are good luck and prosperity.
Depending on your situation, you may need to open yourself up more and clear out your own inner shadows to let more light into your experience.
While the sun is crucial to life on Earth, its power can also be harmful if its intensity is not balanced with other forms of energy. You may be asked to look at how you are directing your vitality. Are you scattered over too many activities and commitments? (I think we can all probably answer ‘yes’ to that question!) Do you find that you are neglecting your health or at risk of burning out? If so, it’s time to ground yourself and possibly re-prioritize.
Use the Sun’s power to illuminate the issue with rational clarity rather than through the lens of emotions. Be honest with yourself and with others, as deceit keeps everyone in the shadows.
The birthdates associated with Sowilo are February 13-27.
Thank you for stopping by and continuing this journey with me!

Thanks Jan.. I was born on February 13th and I will admit to being a workaholic.. but am aware that at times I stretch myself too far.. Still with our Irish weather it is probably a good thing I have a full plate to keep me out of mischief lol.. hugsx
I think we all tend to stretch ourselves way too thin at times, Sally. And I can see this being a very fitting rune for you to be born under. You radiate light! Thank you for stopping by and thank goodness for anything that keeps us out of mischief. 🙂 Hugs!
Lol… and some of us are easily led into it..xxx♥
When I began reading your explanations this rune felt like a huge ball of (day-)light that surrounds the one who has it in their reading.
I think that pretty much nails it, Erika. It represents that huge ball of light that can make everything crystal clear. Thank you for stopping by!
I saw a person on a boat with a stick to push the boat forward but the pushing happened effortless. The person was surrounded by light and only saw an dark yellow loving light light. He was not only guided but even carried by light. This picture was so vivid.
Oh my goodness, Erika, what an amazing vision. I do believe we can be carried by the light, if we are open and allow it. Beautiful! Thank you for sharing!
I had to, it was so beautiful – picture and feeling. Thank you for triggering it with your post, Jan!
I love your reading, Jan. I’m at the point of burn-out (because of the move), so reading your interpretation helped me see that I need to take care of myself. Big hugs! 💗
I am thinking about you, Gwen, and sending you light and love. YES! Don’t forget to take care of YOU! Hugs!
Another very interesting reading, Jan. The points about looking after yourself and burn out are well made, especially now. Women have a tendency to look after everyone else before themselves.
So true, Robbie, which makes me immediately think of yesterday’s Queen of Cups. Thank you for stopping by today!
I like this one, Jan. The first thing I thought of when seeing it was musical note.
Oh, Denise, I didn’t see that, but now that you mention it, it is much like the ‘rest’ symbol in music. Thank you for stopping by and leaving your comment. Have a great day!
I like it even better looking more like the rest symbol:)
Reblogged this on GrannyMoon's Morning Feast.
Thak you for the reblog, Granny Moon!
Thanks for sharing, Jan. I like how you always explain the good news as well as the lesson in each rune. <3
Thank you, Diana! I’m happy you stopped by!
What a delightful rune, Jan. I think any time we allow a sunny thought to enter a dark issue, we are well on the way to solving that issue. Good to keep sunshine in mind all day. Even in the rain.
Yes! I totally agree, John. I’m visualizing sunshine even though it’s still cloudy here. 🙂 Thank you for stopping by!
😁
Each morning, I raise the window shades and sing. “Let the sunshine in, let the sunshine in.”
If it’s cloudy I add, “Let the sunshin in, even if it’s cloudy let the sunshine in.”
I began doing that as a way to fight depression during my guide dog’s last days and it stuck.
Uplifting post, Jan. Sun as “a joy in the hopes of seafarers”–I like that.
Thanks for stopping by, Jacqui! I loved that too. Have a great day!
Hi Jan and everyone.
i love this rune. Just this morning, I mean like about 15 or 20 minutes ago, I had my morning prayer and I asked for clarity on my movning situation and healing for some ongoing health issues.
Then, I sit down here and what do I find?
There are no coincidences.
Thanks Jan for this.
You are right, Patty. There are no coincidences, only synchronicities, and confirmations. Thank you so much for stopping by and I wish you much clarity and balance, as you move forward. Hugs!
Hi again Jan and All.
Just wanted to let you know, this as well as your #Monday #Meditation #Motivation will be in Patty’s Post picks tomorrow.
I find your work very helpful as I traverse my spiritual path.
Love and Light to all.

Too many commitments seem to be a way of life these days.I really like the thought of clearing out inner shadows and letting our light shine through. A lovely rune, Jan!
Yes, it is, Mae. It is so easy to bite off more than we can chew and then struggle daily with the bite. I like that thought too, and the song, “This Little Light of Mine” just came to mind. 🙂 Thank you for stopping by! Have a wonderful day!
This is a great rune. Thanks for sharing it.
My pleasure, Darlene! Thank you for stopping by!
Excellent point about balance and moderation and ‘too much of a good thing’, Jan. I love this rune. Thanks for sharing 🙂
It seems that the keyword to this lifetime, is balance, Harmony. And it is something I strive for, but fear I fall short. Thank you so much for stopping by! Hugs!
Me too! Hugs your way too 🙂💕
I love this rune, Jan, especially the reminder that too much of a good thing isn’t necessarily good for us. Great post! 🙂
So true, Yvette. Even a good thing can be too much if we over-indulge. I’ll never forget my first sunburn. 🙂 Thank you for stopping by! Have a great day!
A powerful message. To keep one’s negative emotions out of our thoughts and actions is not easy, but to live fully we must use rational clarity. Truly, “let the sunshine in…” Thank you, Jan.
Thank you for your beautiful comment, Karen! And now I have the song in my head and it’s a great one!! Positive all the way! I appreciate you stopping by and wish you an awesome day!
I like this one, Jan. I do think we are all often guilty of being over committed. It’s always good to slow down and reflect.
It’s so easy to over-commit, Joan. I think we probably all do it. And the older I get, the fewer hours there are in a day to get it all done! 🙂 Thank you for stopping by!
I feel the same as Staci. This might be my favorite so far. Thanks for sharing, Jan. Enjoy your day!
Exactly, Jill! Thank you for stopping by!
I’m surprised this one wasn’t my birthday. It resonated with me, start to finish. Thanks for sharing, Jan.
This is such a beautiful rune, Staci! I think ALL of us like-minded people should have been born under this rune symbol! Thank you for stopping by and I hope this is one that shows up often on the readings! Have a great day!
