Happy Wednesday! Since I took down my Facebook passion page, I decided to share some of my passions here on my blog.
I love rocks!
Since I can remember, I’ve been a collector. When we’d go on family vacations, I always came home with a pile of rocks, much to my parent’s dismay.
But for me, that love tripled shortly after Rick passed away.
After his death, and my decision to leave our home, I started the process of packing. Then about six months later, I moved into a new house and started the unpacking process.
I had (have) lots of Rick’s paintings. As I was deciding which ones I wanted to hang in my new house, I opened all of the boxes and pulled them out. Then as I made my choices and returned them to their packing boxes, there was one box that the painting wouldn’t fit back into. Puzzled, I turned the box upside down, and lo and behold, this fell out.
Now, keep in mind, I put every single item in each box (well, with the help of a bit of vodka and cranberry juice). But I swear I had never seen this Amethyst Crystal before the day it fell out of the box. So, I viewed it as a Spirit gift and wanted to learn everything I could about it.
Amethyst works as a natural tranquilizer, activates spiritual awareness, aids in sobriety, helps combat insomnia, boosts the immune system, enhances brain function, and guards against psychic attacks.
That’s the short version.
Amethysts are reported to open a person’s third eye. The third eye is considered to be a source of power and wisdom.
Crystal practitioners believe a person can use amethysts to enhance or sharpen spiritual visions and enlightenment. These are scientifically unproven claims.
Metaphysical crystal practitioners may also believe that amethyst geodes or crystals placed in your home will absorb negative energy and create an air of tranquility in the space. For that reason, Amethysts are often used to aid in the passing from this life into the next.
Plus, they claim that amethysts help block electromagnetic frequencies and “geopathic stress” that can foster negativity. This is said to occur when human-made objects disrupt the earth’s natural energy
If you’d like to try out the reported healing benefits of amethysts for yourself, here are a few ways you can incorporate them into your life:
- Carry a small amethyst crystal in your pocket or purse.
- Wear jewelry made from amethysts, such as a necklace, bracelet, or ring.
- Place amethyst crystals or geodes in your home.
Not only is Amethyst a beautiful stone, but carries some amazing properties. It was the beginning of a fun and never-ending journey of collecting in and learning about all kinds of gemstones and incorporating them into daily life.
I look forward to sharing others with you.
Do you have a gemstone you are drawn to? I’d love to hear from you.

Rose quartz has always been my favourite but both my earrings and ring were stolen along with much of my other jewellery …they were my favourite pieces…
Hmm, maybe I should wear the amethyst ring my grandmother gave me more often. The stone I’ve always been drawn to is aquamarine.
That’s a thought, Liz. And especially since it belonged to your grandmother. I’m sure it has some wonderful energy in it. Aquamarine stones are incredibly beautiful. It’s one I don’t own. Thank you for stopping by and leaving a comment!
You’re welcome, Jan!
What a fascinating discovery, Jan. I think things that appear like that are gifts from the spirit and imbued with meaning. Perfect that the stone was an amethyst too. It’s a favorite stone of mine too. My daughter grew up with an amethyst heart tucked under her bed. 🙂 Thanks for the beautiful post.
Awww, how wonderful that your daughter grew up with an amethyst heart under her bed. Great protection! Thank you for stopping by and leaving a comment, Diana!
Hi Jan, I am pleased to read such good things about amethyst. It is my birth stone [February].
Oh, how wonderful, Robbie! A wonderful birthstone to have. Thank you for stopping by!

Loved this, and yes I do have amethyst stones, among others. It also protects love. I love my crystals. 🙂
Thank you for stopping by and leaving a comment, Debby. Yes, amethyst is such an incredible little stone and I loved sharing it. I hope you have a great day!
<3
Jan, what a wonderful story about finding the amethyst! It does seem like that was a message to you from Rick, and something to cherish always. What a precious gift! I have always been attracted by the beauty of natural stones and have a bowl full of them (somewhere, now I will have to look for them). I remember selecting them based on their color. I’ll have to look at them and see which one(s) attract me more, and find out their significance. Finally – congratulations on your award in Readers Favorite – that is a huge accomplishment and well deserved!
Hi, Maura Beth! Thank you for stopping by and leaving a comment. Yes!! Go find your stones and see what you have. 🙂 I’ll be sharing more as I go along in this series. I’ll be curious to see if I touch on any of the ones you have. You’ll have to let me know. Also, the full moon is the perfect time to set the bowl outside and charge your stones! Thank you for the congrats! I am thrilled.
I loved reading about your amethyst, Jan. A marvelous story. I love gemstones too — even ordinary rocks. I call myself a rock geek. You should see peoples’ faces when I ask them to bring me a rock from their vacation. LOL Hugs on the wing!
Lol, Teagan! Yes, I too, am that kind of rock geek. I’d rather have a rock from someplace I’ve never been than any other moment. Thank you so much for stopping by! I hope you enjoy this series!
Fantastic post Jan and love stones and we used to collect from wherever we travelled this one is close to my heart as it is my birthstone.. I have some jewelry including some earrings I must wear more often… have a wonderful weekend..hugs
I’m so glad you enjoyed the post, Sally. I will be sharing some of my favorite gemstones over the coming weeks. I love them and love working with them. Hugs!
I have been collecting crystals for years. I use them in Reiki therapies and healings.
Hi, Brenda! Thank you for following my blog and for leaving a comment! Yes! Reiki and crystals go hand in hand with healing. I’m thrilled that you’ve joined us!
When my son was little, he would want to do the rock mining on every trip we took. In one of the bags we purchased, he “mined” a large amethyst geode. He still has it in his room today. I have no doubt this is why he always sleeps so peacefully. 🙂 I can’t wait to hear more about gems and stones, Jan! 🙂
Awwww, what a wonderful story! I love that your son is a fellow rock lover and how exciting to mine an amethyst geode! I would be ecstatic! And yes, I’m sure that helps with his peaceful sleep. Thank you so much for stopping by and sharing! Have a great day!
I’m reading your books about you and Rick, Jan. I’m sure this is a message from him. From what I’ve read, there’s nothing that would keep you two apart. <3
Wow, Colleen! I am honored! Thank you so much for investing your time in our story. And thank you for your beautiful comment! Hugs!
I’m going to have a massive book hangover when the series is done. You’ve captured me completely! <3
I remember when you found this particular amethyst stone and the mystery of how it got there is still unsolved. I really think Rick manipulated the stone in the box. He knew how badly you needed help with grief and healing from the hurting. That’s my theory. I love learning about stones and it’s a toss-up as to which of our obsessions is more. There’s just something about holding a stone in my hand. I do believe fully in their power. Love you, sister.
You may be right, sister. All I know is that it was in the bottom of the box and it sent me on a never-ending journey of exploring crystals and gemstones. And, I’m glad it did. And I agree about our obsessions. We’ve always shared a love for rocks, much to Mama and Daddy’s dismay. 🙂 Thank you for stopping by and leaving a comment. I love you!
What a story of how you found that Amethyst. They are such strong and spiritual stones since they also belong to the crown chakra and support medial abilities (as you wrote). A wonderful stone to clear the mind to “sort things out” which also fits your story in some way. As you said, it helps with insomnia. I put it under my pillow for a while (I don’t really remember the effect, to be honest). Thanks for all the insights about that stone.
Thank you for your comment, Erika. I also put the Amethyst under my pillow when I first found it and all I remember is extremely vivid dreams. I appreciate you stopping by and leaving a comment!
It is interesting how we do it instinctively. Sounds like your mind expanded in your dreams. Cool!
Great story, Jan. I’m sure it was a spiritual gift. My favorite is the emerald. (Birthstone)
Ah, yes. Emeralds are high vibrational stones and have good healing energy. Thank you for stopping by!
That’s why I’m so healthy.
Beautiful reflection as always! I love crystals and especially Amethysts. If you ever travel through Arizona and are near the little town of Quartzsite, be sure to stop. The stores have breathtaking stones and crystals. 💗
YES, Gwen. I’ve been through some of the stores in Sedona, and needless to say, I came home with gemstones. 🙂 My favorite way to find them is by walking in nature and digging for them. Thank you for stopping by and so glad you enjoyed the post!
So enjoyed your post, Jan. When we went on our first trip to Europe decades ago, I filled my husband’s empty film canisters with rocks along with tiny bits of paper stating where I snatched them. Love collecting rocks.
Lol, Mary! That sounds SO much like something I would do, and how smart to add notes to remind you where you found them. Thank you for your comment!
I love you found that amethyst in a box. Definitely sent to you. I love rocks too ever since I was little. I’m always searching when out in nature and adding to my collection. They are all over my house and garden. I especially love to find heart shaped rocks. I will spend a long time at a rock display at a fair and pick what gives me the most energy at that moment. I have plenty of amethyst around me 🙂
Oh yes, Denise! I love finding heart-shaped rocks and seashells. 🙂 I would love to see your rock collection. Considering where you live, I can imagine you have a bit of everything. Thank you for leaving a comment! Happy rock hunting!
That’s a wonderful story. What else could it be except a gift from his spirit?
I think you are absolutely right, Jacqui. Since Amethyst is a stone of sobriety, maybe he was concerned about my Vodka consumption through the packing process. 🙂 Thank you for your comment!
Hehee. Vodka or Scotch–my drinks of choice when I used to do business entertainment.
Lol, Jacqui. Now I hardly every drink and most of the time, it’s just a glass of wine. Love your comment!
I love gemstones! Stones in general. When I was a kid, I had a wonderful rock collection. I still keep a bag of tumbled stones in my desk drawer that I fiddle with when I’m “musing” a scene on a story.
Amethyst is probably my favorite stone of all. I have several pieces of jewelry with amethyst stones. I’m also a fan of pearls (especially colored pearls), and my birthstone is garnet.
What a cool story about the amethyst stone in the crate, Jan. I would look at that as an unexpected gift as well!
I am thrilled to learn that you love rocks too, Mae! I too keep certain gemstones next to my computer and fiddle with them when I’m needing to think. 🙂 I will be talking about some of the most helpful stones for creativity as we go along. I’d be willing to bet you have some of them. Thank you for joining in!
When I was a kid, I was interested in rocks. I even made my parents buy me a book on rocks and minerals. I used to gather stones, trying to determine what they were and hoping to find something rare. (Never did.)
My birthstone is a diamond, so that’s probably my favorite. But who doesn’t like those? My kids are pearl and opal, but I understand those to be unlucky if others give them to you. (Funny, my ex-husband gave me both.) I think both are lovely, though. A pearl has beautiful luster, and opals have gorgeous colors in them. I guess if I had to pick a stone I liked just for liking it, I’d choose alexandrite. I love it because of its ability to change color, so it’s like getting several stones in one.
Lol, Staci. Your comment about never finding anything rare made me laugh. One of the most fun things I’ve ever done is go to the Crystal mines in Arkansas and dig for Crystals. 🙂 Diamonds are very high vibrational stones (and very expensive). I have heard the old wives’ tale about bad luck if you receive an opal or pearl and they are not your birthstone. I think it’s nothing more than that as I don’t believe any stone carries any bad luck. 🙂 Interesting that your ex gave you both, though. Alexandrite is gorgeous! It’s also expensive, but as you say, you get several stones in one. I will add that one to my list to explore the metaphysical properties. Thank you for stopping by!
Once I move back to Arkansas, if you go diamond mining again, we’ll have to get together!
Reblogged this on GrannyMoon's Morning Feast.
Ooh, I have an amethyst ring. They are beautiful stones.
Awesome, Joan. It would be interesting to see if you feel any differently when you wear it. Maybe try it out on a day when you know you’ll be under a lot of stress and see if it has any calming effect. Thank you for your comment!
I should have worn it last Friday. 😊
Exactly, Joan!
I’ve always loved amethyst, too. I didn’t know this about the third eye, Jan. I can certainly use one of those! Thanks for sharing.
Priscilla, when you do “show up”, why those colours?
Sometimes I show up in tan and white. Sometimes my black-and-white photo avatar does show up. Sometimes only my Google blue-and-white avatar shows up. Maybe the pink and blue is just on this site??
WordPress is finicky, Priscilla. 🙂 I have no idea why it would show up as blue and pink here.
In my photo, I’m wearing zircons, which is unusual. I prefer “the real thing”, diamonds. I was irresistibly drawn to these during an airport wait years ago, even though they are clip-ons and pinch, and my ears are pierced. I can’t explain why I bought them – they weren’t cheap – and I “got rid of them” by giving them to my young niece who hadn’t had her ears pierced and liked them, Since, she has had studs put in, but she cannot leave these off except for school!
Most interesting, Sarah. The Zirconia is believed to improve focus, increase mental clarity, and release the ego. I believe that if we are drawn to a certain stone, we have some sort of affinity to it. Thank you for your comment!
I love crystals and collect them too Jan. I have amethyst too, love them. They inspire my writing and pay a central part in my YA novel Bloodstone which was inspired in part by a magnificent crystal grotto. x
Oh, Marje, you just made me head over and pick up Bloodstone! I thought I already had it, but I do now. 🙂 Thank you for your comment and I love connecting with fellow rock lovers! Thank you so much for your comment!
Hi Jan, oh that’s awesome hope you enjoy Bloodstone. That’s lovely to have that shared interest. Happy rock collecting!
What a cool story about how you came to find the stone. I am drawn to garnets, though I have no idea what they symbolize. My grandmother was drawn to them, too. It’s weird because red/pink/maroon isn’t my favorite color at all.
Priscilla, why are you represented by blue and pink shapes?
Thoughts on that, Jan?
Because my WordPress avatar only shows up SOMEtimes. I dunno why. It’s frustrating!
Hi, Priscilla. If you are drawn to garnets, then you have some special affinity to them. I will be including garnets in this series, so maybe it will make sense to you when you read about them. Thank you so much for stopping by today! Hugs!
