Everyone I know responds enthusiastically at the mention of getting a massage, myself included.
There is nothing more relaxing than having all the knots and kinks rubbed out of your neck and back.
But, did you know that getting regular massages increases productivity and creativity?
Whether you are writing a novel, working on a challenging project, or coming up with new creative content for a business –a massage will help. This is because one of life’s biggest stressors can come from prolonged intense focus on a particularly taxing subject. The intense focus that creative projects require can place blinders on an individual. A massage helps lift these blinders and allows ideas to formulate. Left unattended, this added stress can lead to anxiety, lack of sleep and even mental mind blocks. Mind blocks definitely prevent creative juices from running free, which in turns leaves you concerned about completing your current project, adding to your stress levels.
A relaxing massage could be the best cure known to man for writer’s block, difficulty falling to sleep and negative attitude.
It is a proven fact that a 30 minute massage can do wonders for not only the body, but the mind and spirit as well.
There was a time when only wealthy aristocrats could indulge in such luxury. But we are privileged to live in a time when a massage is affordable and available!
I make it a practice to go for a massage once a month. I have gotten story ideas while on the massage table. I’ve worked out sticky plot issues with my WIP while on the massage table. I’ve figured out ways to deepen my characters while on the massage table. So, I am a believer!
I am curious. How often to you treat yourself to a massage? Do you believe in the therapeutic benefits? Do you have any stories you’d like to share?
I can see the benefits to massage, and if my husband is willing to give me one, I’m all for it. (Lord knows, I need the stress relief.) But I’ve never had a professional one and never will. I can’t get past the idea of a stranger touching me. It seems weird. (Hubby, on the other hand, loves them. He goes often. And he definitely needs the stress relief, too.) Interesting stuff.
That is most interesting, Staci. Most of the time, it is the opposite, with the man not really going out for massages. They are most definitely stress-relieving! I’m glad your hubby is willing to do that for you.
Well, I didn’t say that… (LOL) Not as often as I’d like, anyway.
I also get a monthly massage. Mine isn’t so relaxing, though. Lol! I tend to get a deep tissue massage, especially in my neck and shoulder areas, where I hold all of my tension. I’m lucky that my massage therapist knows about pressure points and has a true understanding of the body’s functioning systems. And she’s not expensive at all. 🙂
Absolutely, Yvi! It is so awesome when the massage therapist really knows his/her stuff and knows exactly what will help relieve the tension and stress in the muscles. Good for you for getting a treatment monthly! Thanks for stopping by!
Hi, Jan! I do love massages but it has been a while since I’ve had one. Anything that relieves stress and boosts your immune system is great in my book. You’ve convinced me to get massages more often. Thank you!
Awesome, Vashti! Schedule one today! Hugs!
Wow, that’s quite a list of benefits, Jan. (I was brought up to believe I didn’t deserve essentials, let alone luxuries. So even when I had money I didn’t indulge myself in things.) I had not thought about it, and I hate to admit that I can count the number of massages I’ve had in my life on the fingers on one hand — and have fingers left over. Clearly I need to work on “deserving.” 🙂 Hugs on the wing.
Yes, my dear, Teagan, you DO need to work on “deserving!” You are a beautiful creative being and you deserve only the best life has to offer!! Hugs back! Thanks for stopping by!
I was a massage therapist and did acupressure as well for over 20 years. I loved it and I miss giving massages. I found it helpful for those who had been abused. They gained an appreciation of their bodies and themselves and let go of shame and guilt.
I get massages frequently. The woman I go to incorporates Reiki into her massages which is a beautiful and healing experience.
Thank you for writing about this subject, Jan.
Now, there is something I did not know about you, Karen! Yes, massages are soothing and beneficial, but when you incorporate Reiki into it, it goes to a totally different level. How fortunate to have that opportunity! Thank you so much for leaving such a great comment! Hugs!
This is a good idea, Jan. That’s exactly what I need.
Go for it, Rob!
Hot stone massages are my favorite. I’ve been thinking it is time again. The Mirbeau Spa and Inn has my favorite. Thanks for the delightful post.
Oh yes!! I love the hot stones! They really get down into the tight muscle! Thanks for stopping by maryanniemczura!
My pleasure, Jan. Have a good week. “”__””
If you do decide to try a massage, just be sure and tell them you want light pressure, Mae. I think you’d find it enjoyable. Thanks for stopping by!
I admit I’ve never had a massage. I have several disc issues and tend to tense up even when in PT. I do enjoy meditation, and perhaps should give it a try, I know many people swear by a massage, and can see where it would heighten creativity.
I used to get regular massages, Jan. Then, our masseuse got married and she didn’t resume her practice. It’s been two years and I’ve been meaning to find another. Thanks to you I may do so.
Awesome, Linda!! Go for it!
Never had a message. Now that I’m older I won’t. I’m always happy to hear of others enjoying them though.
Thanks for your comment, John. I do highly recommend that you try one. 🙂
EEEEEEEKKKKKKK. Scares me to death.
I did actually have a couple massages 40 plus years ago, but they really don’t count (I won’t explain further). That’s not to say my wife doesn’t occasionally poke, prod or use a mechanical device on an achy muscle here or there. That really doesn’t count either, in the context of what you’re describing. Someday, maybe. 🙂
Lol, John. Your comment made me laugh out loud. Thanks for chiming in. 🙂
Body massage…never! Face and foot massage…yes! Yes, it is relaxing!
Everyone is different, Balroop. Facial and foot massages are wonderful and relaxing! Thank you for commenting!
Wonderful that you’re feeling the positive results, Jan! Go you! 🙂
Thanks, Natalie!
Never. Not once, ever. I’m sure you’re right though. I don’t seem to get writer’s block, I just need more available time.
Wow! Never? You have to try one some day!
I wish I could say that I get massages but I can’t. I’m a single disabled mother that lives on disabilty income so such indulgences just aren’t in my budget. I do miss having a man in my life that would give me massages that is for sure. Having MS and overactive nerves I’m not sure if I could even tolerate a professional massage. A very strange thing with my MS is that mid-forearm to tips of fingers and mid-calf to tips of toes feels numb, tingling sensations, it feels like I have on tight full length gloves and ski boots. Yet in turn if I touch my hand or arm to something hot or step on something while barefoot the pain is dramatically overly emphasized. I often say if I step on a pebble it feels like I was just stabbed in the foot. The perials of living with MS! Having MS brain fog makes me wish even more that I could get a massage! Happy June!
Oh my dear, Stephanie. I am so sorry for the struggles you have with MS. As you know my sister has struggles as well. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.
Jan, good for you and your regular massages! They are a boon and always revitilsing … and it’s brilliant that they help your creative energy as well. Alas, although I love massages, I rarely go – only as a treat now and then! There is only one time when I actually came out injured from a massage, when the therapist suddenly lept onto my back and started to walk along it! I screamed in shock and pain but she wouldn’t come down for what felt like ages! Albeit she was lithe and had a small frame, it wasn’t long after this I suffered from two slipped discs, to me the two are always connected.
A relaxing soothing post and the image is soothing. Enjoy your massages! 😀
Yikes!!! That is just crazy! I have never had anyone walk on me during a massage, but I would immediately ask them to stop. Thanks for sharing your story, Annika. And, I’m sorry for your bad experience. Hugs!
Luckily I’ve had many positive ones! 😀😀hugs back. Xx
Good morning Jan- I truly think massages are very good for body, mind, and soul. A lady at my church is a licensed massage therapist and Rob gave me a gift certificate for Christmas. I am loving having my massages.
It was funny, he gave me my certificate wrapped in a shoe box and said. “ I don’t know if you’ll like this, it’s really not a good gift, but I decided I’d give it to you.”
Then he handed me another small box he said to make up for the certificate box, it was a Small packaged gift, a beautiful necklace & earring set. The other of course the gift certificate. I was so thrilled at both, but asked him “why did he think I wouldn’t love it?”
Men!!! Silly boys all grown up. 🤣🤣🤣
I’m glad you posted this, massages can actually heal injuries with out all the pain relief drugs. I hope more start indulging in the amazing type of therapy.
Love you Jan, happy June!
What a cool story, Tonya! Yes, silly boys trying to be men still don’t many clues about what women like. 🙂 How awesome to have a resident massage therapist! Yes, I believe regular massages can help heal what ails us! Thank you so much for stopping by! I love you!
I’m a big believer in massages. I have to get an appt. Its helped me work through many things including plots:)
Exactly!! Thanks for stopping by, Denise!
It’s been a long while since I’ve had a message, but you’ve prompted me to take the leap! Thank you for this reminder and encouragement. 🙂
A Freudian slip there, Gwen? Message or massage – either one – go for it! Thanks for stopping by my dear!
LOL. Definitely a Freudian slip. 😀
