Friday Free-For-All!

Happy Friday! It’s been quite a week!

Where to start. This week has been super intense on many levels involving catastrophes in my family, but in stark contrast, it’s been incredibly uplifting and illuminating.

I’ll start with the good. I don’t know if you are familiar with Qigong, but because of the physical issues I’ve been dealing with, it was suggested that I do some of this ancient Chinese physical exercise. If you aren’t familiar with it, here’s a short definition:  a system of coordinated body posture and movement, breathing, and meditation used for the purposes of health, spirituality, and martial arts training.

I’ve said before I live on the fourth floor of an apartment building, and my balcony faces the east. So, I’ve been getting up early and practicing Qigong as the sun is rising. Combined with some tapping meditation, this has brought me a deep sense of peace and a feeling of well-being despite the chaos around me.

And there is chaos. As you also know, I keep my grandchildren a lot, and this week, at her ice skating lesson, my youngest granddaughter fell and injured her wrist. So far, it looks like it’s only a sprain and not a break.

Meantime, her sister, who is 12, is away at an orchestra camp in Oklahoma for the week, and she had to be rushed to the nearest hospital yesterday with a suspected heat stroke. My daughter, of course, dropped everything and drove two hours to the hospital. Sydney is going to be okay, and they treated and released her. Then, while driving back to the lodge where the camp is, they had to shelter from a tornado. Later, as my daughter was driving back home in the pouring rain, she realized there is some damage to the car. Geez! The hits just keep on coming. So, I keep reminding myself this is their stuff, and I don’t have to own it. I am here to support, love, and uplift, but this is their journey. I’m just along for the ride.

A health update: I had the BPPV evaluation on Tuesday, and that test was negative. I was almost hoping it would be positive so the dizziness could be fixed with the Epley Maneuver. Then I saw my GP on Wednesday, and as another shot in the dark, he ordered a round of steroids, which I hate taking. Then yesterday, I had an MRI. Now I’m waiting for the results of that and hoping it will show the problem so we can fix it!

Chaos all around. But one thing I’ve learned this week is that even in the midst of it, I can maintain a peaceful feeling deep inside. If I can do it, anyone can. I’m staying focused in the moment, giving thanks for every good thing around me, and being whatever help I can be to my family in their struggles.

If you missed D Wallace Peach’s blog post this week, I suggest you head over and read it. She said it best. I want to live each day like a dog!

Have a great weekend!
