BLOG TOUR STOP #5 – D.L. FINN

I’m happy to be a guest at D.L. Finn’s beautiful blog spot today in Northern California!

I honestly can’t remember how many years I’ve known Denise (D.L. Finn) but it’s been a long time. I am a huge fan of her work and have read everything she’s ever put out. She writes insightful poetry, novels and short stories that make you stop and think. This is her latest collection of short stories.

Here’s my review!

I loved the first collection of Miracles & Ghosts Past and grabbed this one as soon as it came available.
And I enjoyed each story in Collection Two as much or more than the first one.
There is an overarching theme throughout each story and, as the title suggests includes either ghosts or miracles, or sometimes both. The other theme each story carries is the threat of real danger.
It’s hard to pick an absolute favorite, but the “Christmas Train Mystery” really grabbed me. I loved this character. Rita finds herself married to a man she no longer recognizes after thirty years together. Surely an anniversary train trip will serve to rekindle their flame. Only he refuses to go. Then, the secrets she uncovers shatters her world and she boards the train alone. While danger threatens, guardian angels intervene and with the help of a kind stranger, she finds the strength to do what she knows she must. I cheered her on!
“Christmas Rescue” is heartwarming.
In “Is There A Santa?” a man struggling to raise two young boys alone and on the brink of losing everything he values finds hope. A message from beyond the grave is puzzling, but he soon understands.
“She’s Home Alone” is another gripping story as a child makes Christmas wishes. But danger lurks and a shining angel gives her life saving instructions.
“After A War Comes” seems almost prophetic. The author didn’t designate a time period for this story and in my mind, I saw it as futuristic.
“Christmas After Loss” became very personal for me and I shed a tear or two.
If you love diverse short stories with the theme of hope, kindness and goodness amidst darkness, this book is for you. I read it in two sittings.

I do hope you’ll check out this book and more HERE!

Then come on over for another short excerpt from FRINGES, HEARTSTRINGS AND LYRICS!
