Friday Free For All – Audiobook – Copy Edits – Grandchildren

Happy Friday! We made it to the end of the week. I hope it’s been a productive one for you.

I am super excited to be listening to the first seven chapters of my upcoming new release, The Edge of Too Late. This is a new experience, as none of my other books are in audiobook format yet. Hearing the words and story you created brought to life in spoken form is exhilarating. I always thought it would be too expensive to do this, and it used to be. But it has gotten more affordable as a larger number of narrators have started to participate.

I first put up a 500-word sample from the book on ACX for narrators to audition. I got over twenty auditions, and it was super hard to choose a reader. But I’m happy with my choice, and I hope fans of audiobooks will like the production. The book will be released as an eBook, print, and audiobook on 11-28-23!

In other bookish news, I am working my way through the copy edits for A Beggar’s Bargain. The more I work with the story, the more I fall in love with the characters, the plot, and even the dog. 🙂 It will be published in March 2024. As soon as I finish this round of edits, I’ll go back to the second book in the series and move it forward. Sometimes, it’s hard to be patient.

Yet, I’ve had a big lesson in patience as I let my foot heal from the surgery. I returned to work this week, but honestly, a couple of days were really hard, and I cried all the way home in pain. It is what it is, and once I was off of the foot and had it propped up, the pain went away. So, it’s a slow process. However, it’s only been three weeks since the surgery. Can I admit patience is not my strong suit?

One of my greatest joys in life and the one and only reason I live in this huge metropolis is because of my family. When my husband died, I knew the only thing that could begin to fill that void was my daughters and their children. At the time he passed, I had only one grandson (who is now 17). Now, I have three grandsons and two granddaughters. This week, my youngest granddaughter dressed up as a historical character for Living History Day at school. Samantha is Thomas Edison. 🙂

And this evening, I get to go watch my oldest granddaughter participate in a play production at the high school. She is Pua in the play Moana. I’m sure I’ll have photos to share later.

That’s it for today. I wish everyone a wonderful weekend. The weather has turned wet and chilly here, so other than the Moana play, I plan to hibernate, work on edits, listen to the audiobook chapters, and read.

  1. Other than the pain following your surgery, it sounds like you had a marvelous week. Exciting news on your audio book release. I know you will enjoy your grandchild’s performance. I can’t wait for these moments myself.

    1. Oh, Pete, you are going to love being a grandparent! The children are such a joy! Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. Can’t wait to see the first picture of the new grandbaby!

  2. Samantha looks adorable! I’m so sorry you were in such pain, Jan. Take care of yourself. Congratulations on the book! I’m behind…still need to read Denise’s book! I can’t keep up.

  3. Oh, those lessons in patience. I have been dealing with a herniated disc for 6 months now. I have known about the herniated disc only for about 3 months. The problem is the sciatica which is bothering me sometimes more and sometimes less. And sometimes I can hardly bear it. The herniated disc appears to be much better, but the sciatica is still pretty irritated and that will still take a loooong time. So, I hear you very well!!
Congrats on your first audio book! That sounds indeed exciting!

    1. I sympathize with the sciatica, Erika. I also have back issues that I’ve dealt with my entire life, as I have severe scoliosis. But it’s manageable. I get regular chiropractic adjustments and have been so fortunate to find a chiropractor who is a true healer. It keeps me going. Thanks for the congrats and for stopping by!

  4. I haven’t tried the audio and might look into it in the future. I know some only listen to books and it’s great to offer that. Sorry your foot gave you so e trouble but glad it settled down once you rested. Patience isn’t string in me either 🙂 It is nice to be so active in the grandkids lives. It will keep us where we are past retirement plans. Have a great weekend xo

    1. I think audio is worth taking a look at, Denise. People spend so much time in their cars commuting that it has become quite popular. Let me know if you decide to do it. You are right about being active in the grandkids’ lives. It’s what keeps me joyful and gives me purpose. Thank you for stopping by!

  5. What a busy week, Jan! Yet the healing is a lesson to go “slow and steady” so you don’t undo all the good work, right? Yet I do understand wanting to rush it and get back to normal, lol! So excited for your next book! Congrats on the audio, too! Enjoy your weekend, my friend.

  6. Congrats on the audiobook. I’ve never tried one, but now that the cost is more manageable, I might consider that in the future.

Have fun at the play tonight. It’s cold and rainy here also.
