Friday Free-For-All Ramblings

Happy Friday! I am happy to say we have had fabulous weather this week in Texas! Temperatures have been below 100 and most parts of the state even got a welcome bit of rain. Maybe Fall is really right around the corner.

This has been a productive week for me, and I hope it has been for you as well. I finished my final read-through and edit of “A Beggar’s Bargain” and sent it to my editor. I have set a release date of March 12, 2024. Here’s a draft that’s still in the creation phase for the cover. Let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions.

The background for the covers of each book in this series will be the same with only the vehicle and dog changing. As I said, I’m open to any suggestions you might have.

I’m still in a quandary over changing the covers of my true story books. I did, however, design a logo that would go on each new cover, if I ever find the right cover design I need.

I’m still playing with the colors as they could change depending on what I decide on for the covers.

My little grandson got an academic award this week. He’s in fourth grade and so darned smart!

Connor

I’m proud of Connor. Then it was Grandparents Day at Samantha’s school.

My daughter and son-in-law’s rental in Broken Bow, Oklahoma, is finally finished and available for a fabulous getaway. It’s gorgeous! And I love the name, Hummingbird Hideaway.

This week on Jacqui Murray’s blog, she provided some amazing and invaluable tech tips. If you missed it, I highly suggest you take a look. I downloaded this graphic, but her blog has so much more. There were many things I did not know. Here’s the LINK.

Also, this week, Sally Cronin featured the first book in the Harbor Pointe Series! Mae Clair’s The Price of Atonement is set to release on 9/26/23! Many thanks to Sally for the spotlight. We are all excited that they are about to release like dominos falling! Here’s the link to Sally’s Blog: LINK

To everyone who has pre-ordered any of these books, THANK YOU!!

If you haven’t ordered yet, here’s the link to all of them! HARBOR POINTE SERIES

We had a lot of fun in my last month’s newsletter, with the question posed about how we each put on our socks and shoes. The options were sock, shoe, sock, shoe OR sock, sock, shoe, shoe. Sock, shoe, sock, shoe won by a landslide.

Thanks to and idea I got from Kymber Hawke’s blog, I have a new question in this month’s newsletter that is getting interesting responses. Are you subscribed? If not, you’re missing out on some fun and a chance to win an Amazon gift card. You can subscribe HERE.

If you want to play another fun game, make a grocery list, then leave it lying on the kitchen counter and try to guess what was on it at the store.

  1. Nice to hear the temp is cooling down a bit in your part of the world too. Love the pictures of the grandchildren. Glad I’m not the only one who forgets the grocery list at home. Funny enough, I usually get everything on the list anyway!!
PS I love the cover, especially the dog!

  2. I like the cover and logos, Jan. Great family pics, too. Nice the school honors grandparents like that. What a gorgeous house and rental. I am more a sock sock person, and it’s interesting how that came out. I’m with you about making a list and leaving it at home… lol. Have a great weekend xo

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Denise. I’m glad you like the cover and logo. I loved getting to visit Samantha’s school for Grandparents Day. So much fun. Interesting that you fall in the lower percentage category with the sock/shoe situation. 🙂 Yep. I’ve actually made the list and forgot to take it, but not on purpose. Have a great weekend!

  3. What a busy week, Jan! Delighted to hear your temps have gone down. I’ll have to make a copy of these handy tech tips. Enjoy your weekend! xo

    1. I’m so glad you found the tech tips helpful. There were several things on the chart I did not know, so very glad Jacqui shared them. And YES!! So glad the temps went down. Thank you for stopping by, Mary, and I wish you a great weekend ahead as well!

  4. You were busy, Sister! Lots of grandma time and lots of creating. I think your projected book cover is clean and pretty. But you didn’t add that you helped a neighbor get her book published. 🙂 Now that Beggar’s Bargain is off to the editor, you have to get back to Book 2. I’m anxiously awaiting the next installment. Love you, Sister.

    1. Yep. I’m going to have to go back to the beginning of A Bold Bargain and make some changes in Jack’s character before I move forward, but I’m anxious to get back to it. Thank you for stopping by! Love you!

    1. My pleasure, Jacqui. there were so many things in your blog post I didn’t know, I was sure others needed to be educated, too. Glad you like the cover. The vehicle on the second book cover will be a 1942 Woody Wagon and the dog will be a terrier. On the third one, the vehicle will be a 1939 Indian Chief Motorcycle and I’m not sure yet about the dog. 🙂 Thanks for chiming in. So glad it intrigued you!

    1. Yes! So thankful for the cooler weather. I don’t know if it will last, but even if we get the heat again, surely it won’t be as bad as it was. Thanks for visiting, Joan. Happy weekend to you, too!

  5. I’m definitely a sock sock shoe shoe person, so I guess that makes me a bit of an oddball.:-)

    Congrats to Connor!

I love the book cover with the old pickup and the dog. I’d simply ground the truck and dog by adding shadows. You might consider flipping the dog around so that the light shining on the dog matches the light shining on the truck (direction-wise, I mean).

    1. Excellent suggestions, Vera. I will take that to heart when I send it off to the actual cover design people. 🙂 This is my attempt at a rough draft. It’s okay to be an oddball. And thanks for the congrats to Connor. I appreciate you stopping by!

    1. Thank you, Sally. I’m glad you like the new book cover. It’s a start. I love sharing my grandchildren. They are the lights of my life. I am happy to share your blog post and thank you for visiting!
