D.L. Finn has released a new book of poetry! And, I am pleased to present it to you here in her own words!
Thank you, Jan, for having me on your blog to talk about the release of my first poetry book, “Just Her Poetry Seasons of a Soul.”
Finn Facts:
- I’m a pile maker. When I put things away, I am unable to find them later.
- My first attempt at driving in the snow, I ended up on top of a tree. I slid off the driveway onto a small cedar and got stuck. We made it a snow day and stayed home.
Blurb:
Take a journey with D.L. Finn as she blends her love of nature with her deepest emotions. Sit with her on the forest floor observing its tranquil beauty, or stroll along the ocean’s shore admiring the vastness of its horizon. Here in these peaceful moments you’ll be able to experience her thoughts and feelings in the light—and in the darkness. This is a thought-provoking collection of poetry that invites the reader into all the seasons of a soul.
Excerpt from MUSINGS FROM THE BACK OF A HARLEY:
MUSINGS
The winds blow our cares away
The rumble announces our presence
As we move forward to nowhere
We enjoy the view as we go
It is our occasion of peace
We are wrapped in leather cocoons
My hand tightly clasps a blue notebook
Its tan pages protesting the winds
I rest it on my husband’s back
And tightly clutch my blue pen
While balanced on the back of the bike
We’re emerged in a wall-less wonder
While the words pour forth from my soul
I attempt to make sense of this experience
A carefree moment of an aged-youth…
Of what I now call:
Musings from the Back of a Harley
D.L. Finn is an independent California local who encourages everyone to embrace their inner child. She was born and raised in the foggy Bay Area, but in 1990 relocated with her husband, kids, dogs, and cats to the Sierra foothills in Nevada City, CA. She immersed herself in reading all types of books, but especially loved romance, horror, and fantasy. She always treasured creating her own reality on paper. Finally, being surrounded by towering pines, oaks, and cedars, her creativity was nurtured until it bloomed. Her creations vary from children’s books, young adult fantasy, and adult paranormal romance to an autobiography with poetry. She continues on her adventures with an open invitation for her readers to join her.

Love the excerpt…Her Poetry is waiting on my kindle! 🙂 Sharing your post, Jan.
Thank you, Bette!!
Thanks Bette:) I’m looking forward to hearing what you think!
This poem is so beautiful, I love the way it’s structured. “Its tan pages protesting the winds” — That’s such a graceful and evocative line. Congratulations on the release of your new book!
I totally agree, Rob. Denise brings along with her for the ride! Thanks for stopping by!
Thank you Robert! I think I had the most fun writing these motorcycle poems:) Thanks for dropping by.
Thank you for that question. 🙂
Yes, it takes a bit to learn to drive in snow! We’ve all had those moments 😮 Good luck with your tour! I got my copy 😀
It does take some skill and learning not to hit the brakes on ice. Now I stay home unless I have no choice but to drive. I worry now more about others not being able to drive in it…lol. Thank you Julie! Yay!
Thank you so much for stopping by and leaving a comment, Julie!
Jan, it’s lovely of you to host Denise and her new book of poetry.
Denise, poor you and your car on your first snow driving day! No fun at all. Wishing you lots of success with ‘Just Her Poetry’ and I like the idea how it ‘invites the reader into all the seasons of a soul.’
Thank you Annika:) Fortunately the car was fine and my husband was able to pull it off the tree with his truck. Quick lesson in driving in the snow. Happy you stopped by!
Thank you for visiting, Annika! I too love that line and it makes me smile every time!
Thank you Marlena:) I’ve had fun sharing them!
Another great post!! I’m really enjoying learning these interesting facts about you, D.L.
Me too, Marlena! Thanks so much for stopping by!
Thank you Marlena:) I’ve had fun sharing them!
I forget what’s at the bottom, too sometimes but I know the subject of what’s there. Black ice is the worst. Getting up and down the hill to get the kids to school gave me some hair raising stories and why I don’t drive in the snow anymore:) Hope you are enjoying your visit with your granddaughter. Happy to hear you enjoyed the poem.
Denise, I make piles and piles of different categories of stuff. I used to remember what was at the bottom of the pile, but not anymore!! I drove in the snow and even on black ice when I lived in Portland, it was scary (Ha, I’m in Portland right now, but visiting my granddaughter). I love the excerpt of your poem.
Thank you, Jan, for hosting.
Oh wow, Miriam. Scary for sure! Thanks for your comment!
You’re welcome, Jan!
Musings from the back of a Harley. Denise after you described the forest and the vast ocean I thought you would get your inspiration from that scenery.,,not the back of a Harley. LOL
Jan thanks for hosting.
I do get my inspiration from nature most of the time, sometimes though I’m on a motorcycle driving through it…lol. Luckily I never have to be the driver just the passenger:)
Thank you for your comment, Shirley! I appreciate you stopping by!
Another wonderful poem to share, Denise. I’m so looking forward to release day! Thanks for hosting Denise today, Jan.
Thank you Soooz:) I look foward to hearing what you think and I’m so grateful for your support!
❤️️My absolute pleasure, Denise.
Thank you SO much, Soooz! It was my pleasure to host Denise!
❤️️
Thank you Vashti! I’m not even sure where the idea came from to write while going 60 miles an hour…lol. So far I have managed to hang on to the journal and pen. Luckily my husband blocks most of the wind. Happy first Day of Spring!
I’m very excited to read this poetry book, Denise! The excerpt poem is lovely. I can picture you writing on the back of the Harley but I don’t know how you do it. Wishing you the best of luck with your new book! Thanks for hosting, Jan! Happy first day of spring to both of you! <3 xo
Thank you for leaving a comment, Vashti! Happy First Day of Spring and Super Moon to you too!
I didn’t see the moon tonight, Jan, but my son-in-law saw it when he came home. He was it was huge and yellow. I wish I was out there to see it. I love taking super moon photos. The first few times I just held the camera still, but for the subsequent super moon, I decided to use a tripod.
A fabulous poem by Denise, Jan.
Thank you Robbie!
Thank you so much for stopping by, Robbie!
Always the best of wishes for your new book, Denise. Thanks to Jan for hosting today.
My pleasure, John. It’s always great to have you drop by!
Always great on my end too.
Thank you John for your encouragement.
Driving in the snow is no fun but those moments become precious to talk about!
I can relate to the inspiration this poem talks about Denise. I jot down the experiences in notes app of my phone and take some pics, if the speed is less. Once I saw an indescribable sunset while stuck on a Freeway traffic. Though I have written about it but my words seem hollow! 🙂
Thank you for sharing Musings, they made my smile.
Thank you SO much for your comment, Balroop! Your experience of attempting to describe an indescribable sunset is something I have witnessed. There are simply some things that can’t be captured in words. Have a great day!
It was a steep learning curve moving from the Bay Area where it didn’t snow to the Foothills where it did. I learned really quickly how to navigate hills and ice. Now I mostly stay home:)
Sometimes all you can do is take notes or record what you are seeing in your mind best you can. I know what you mean about trying to capture the beauty of a sunset in words or even pictures. It never seems to do it full justice.
Glad it brought a smile to your face!
Thanks for sharing D.L.’s book, Jan, and her beautiful poem. Best of luck on the release!
Thank you, Diana! I appreciate you stopping by!
Thank you Diana:) I so glad you came by!
It still amazes me how you write poetry on the back of a Harley, Denise!
Regarding your Finn Facts, I remember the first time I took my Jeep Wrangler out in the snow, I ended up going off the road into a ditch. No damage, but I still worry about that curve in the road when the weather is bad, although the Jeep and I parted ways years ago.
Congratulations on Just Her Poetry. I have my copy on pre-order. It’s almost here!!
Great job hosting, Jan!
Lol, Mae! I agree, although I can relate to the feeling of freedom on the back of a Harley, even though it’s been years now. I am looking forward to this new book as I know it is going to be amazing. Thanks so much for dropping by and leaving a comment!
Thanks Mae. It kind of amazed me I could do it, too. I haven’t lost a poem….yet.
How scary and I’m glad you were okay. I understand how you felt about that part of the road after. I have a couple of places I feel the same way about. My Subrau drives much better than my Ford Taurus did that day, but I’ve learned to be very careful when it snows.
Thanks for your all your support Mae!
I’m excited to read “Just Her Poetry.” I pre-ordered and count the days! Congratulations, Denise. Thank you, Jan, for hosting her on your beautiful blog.
Thanks so much for stopping by, Gwen. I too can’t wait for this book of poetry. I know it is going to be extraordinary!
Thank you Gwen for all your encouragement and support!
