Monday Meanderings #10

Happy St. Patrick’s Day, friends.

I don’t have a lot to share today, so this post will be short and sweet. It’s beginning to look like springtime in Texas! The Bradford Pear Trees and the Dogwoods are blooming. Still, I expect one more cold snap. My mom always used to say there would be an Easter spell every year. We shall see. We’ve had some horrendous winds and you might have seen on the news that the Texas Hill Country is on fire. Prayers for all!

With the school year only having a few more weeks left, lots of UIL activities are going on with all the kiddos. The two older grandsons are on completely separate UIL band trips. Ryan, who is in college, went to Florida with the Calvin University Group and Josh, who is a freshman in high school went to Indianapolis. Even though Josh is a freshman, he made the honors band at McKinney High and I’m so proud of him for that! He plays tuba.

This is Josh on the far right, band director in the middle and other tuba player on the left

This week is spring break for all four of the younger grandkids, so my time to be online will be limited. I will do what I can, when I can. 🙂 If I miss you, I’ll try and catch up, but no promises.

On the writing front, I’m plugging away. I’m determined to try and finish the first draft by April 14th. I think I can do it, if I stay the course. I like sharing little snippets of this new story with you and here’s another short one:

Jack put a hand on the small of her back as Rose approached.
“It’s so nice to meet you, Mrs. Fletcher. I feel as if I already know you. Jack has shared so many of your stories with me in his letters.”

Mrs. Fletcher smiled. “Your brother is one in a million, dear Rose. Oh, please. Make yourself at home.”

Jack pointed to the sofa and Rose took a seat with him next to her.

“You have a lovely voice, dear. I do wish I could see you better. Would it be too much to ask to let me touch your face?”

“Of course not.” Rose stood, then knelt in front of Mrs. Fletcher and guided the woman’s hand across her face.

Jack swallowed hard, trying to dislodge the lump in his throat.

Mrs. Fletcher’s eyesight is failing her and I won’t go into the why of that. You’ll have to read the story to find out. 🙂

On the reading front, I’m in between books right now. That’s always a fun place to be and when I open up my Kindle and browse through the content, I get excited to pick something new.

This week, I have two doctor’s appointments. The first is for the pre-op clearance exam with the primary care doctor and the second is with the surgeon. The days are ticking off. I’ve made a list of questions I want to ask the surgeon when I see her on Wednesday. I’m afraid if I don’t, I’ll forget to ask about things I need to know.

I stole this meme from Facebook because I loved it so much. It’s true!

Here is the tarot card for the week. I know we’ve seen this one before, but it is what popped out, so I’m going with it. There is always a reason.

When you look at this card, notice the turbulent water on one side of the boat and calm waters with a serene island ahead on the other side. That is indicative of moving through a troubling time toward something better. But the most significant aspect of this card is the man who is rowing the boat. It is telling us we are never alone and we have help to navigate through it. The swords in front of the woman and child indicate the intellect and shows how we can trap ourselves with thoughts. Shift your thoughts and you shift your perspective. Trust the healing journey.

I hope that resonates with someone other than myself.

I have the honor of being a guest today on the Kill Zone blog! I’d love it if you’d come on over! Here’s the LINK.

I’ll leave you with a grin. Actually, this one made me laugh right out loud. I could picture this scenario. 🙂 Growing old is not for the faint of heart.

I have a guest visiting the blog tomorrow, so I hope you’ll swing by to support her! She’s kinda’ special to me.

I'd love to hear your thoughts!
