Love and hate combine to endanger the Paladíns and all they hold dear.
Parris Afton Bonds is my friend, but first and foremost, she is a storyteller. She is the author of nearly fifty novels and has been in the business of creating compelling and entertaining stories for over four decades.
She is co-founder and first vice president of Romance Writers of America, as well as, cofounder of Southwest Writers Workshop.
Declared by ABC’s NIGHTLINE as one of three best-selling authors of romantic fiction, the New York Times best seller Parris Afton Bonds has been featured in major newspapers and magazines, as well as, published in more than a dozen languages.
The Parris Award was established in her name by the Southwest Writers Workshop to honor a published writer who has given outstandingly of time and talent to other writers. Prestigious recipients of the Parris Award include Tony Hillerman and the Pulitzer nominee Norman Zollinger.
And the latest series, The Texican Series, is a perfect example of her writing prowess. Before there was New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, California, or Utah, there was Texas. Molded by Old Mexico and a new rough and ready breed of hearty settlers from around the world, The Lone Star Republic was the thing of dreams—land, riches, liberty, home. And that is where this series begins with “The Brigands.”
And now Parris has released Book #4 in this series!
BLURB:
WHEN A LONGTIME family friend is wrongly accused of involvement in a Houston riot and mutiny, Drake Paladín vows to get the best attorney money can buy. That lawyer is none other than Roger Clarendon, known not only for his legal prowess but his insufferable arrogance as well. When the drunken attorney makes an aggressive pass at Drake’s wife, Angel, Drake breaks Roger open like a shotgun. The violent scuffle results in Roger’s father—the Honorable Brighton Clarendon, Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court—delivering a none-to-subtle message to the Paladíns: politics is dirty business.
From hereon, the Paladíns are under the gun, suffering failures and even outright sabotage across their many business ventures. Eventually, even The Barony itself, the sprawling South Texas ranch the family fought and won the right to at the Battle of San Jacinto, is put in peril. Rallying together to save their ancestral home, the Paladíns finally put niceties and tolerance behind them. This is war.
But this battle to exterminate the Clarendons takes Preston Paladín all the way to the bowels of pre-war Nazi Germany—and the disarming charms of the beautiful Fabienne Allaman. But on whose side is she really? And dare he risk The Barony and the fate of his entire family for the love of a resistance fighter with nothing to lose?
In the penultimate volume of her riveting Texicans saga, New York Times bestselling author Parris Afton Bonds weaves the threads of loyalty, class, power, and politics into a single captivating tale of one family’s struggle to survive the fires of war and The Great Depression. Written with the authenticity of a historian, the color of a painter, and the grace of a choreographer, The Betrayers is Bonds at her finest.

Thanks for sharing, Jan. Best to Parris. Hugs.
And my best to you, Teagan. Thank you for taking time out of what is more than likely a busy day to respond with your kind comment. <3
My pleasure, Teagan! Thank you for stopping by! Hugs!
An impressive resume, for sure! I’m not much for romance but I may just make an exception here. 🙂 Thanks for sharing, Jan.: )
If you do take the risk, Mark, I trust your leap will be thrilling! And I am also trusting you will risk answering the next call to adventure. <3
The Texican Series has SO much history in them that the romance takes a backseat. 🙂 Thank you for stopping by!
Wow! Those are some impressive credentials. Amazing blurb!
Pete, thank you! My publisher wrote the outstanding blurb. Taking fifty years of sweat, blood, and angst as a paid professional, I wrote the 5-volume series of The Texicans saga. Let me wish you the best of success in your passion of writing. It’s is the passion not the lure of fame and fortune that is the true pay-off. <3
That is SO true, Parris. If a person writes with the idea of getting rich and famous, they need to find another profession. Writing is a profession of pure passion!
Hi, Pete. I totally agree about the blurb. It says it all! Thank you for stopping by today!
Wow, this series sounds amazing. Congratulations, Parris! Thank you, Jan, for introducing her to me. I’m in awe of her writing abilities. 🙂
Gwen, it is I who thank you ~ for taking time out of what most likely is a busy day for you to post your kind comment. <3
My pleasure, Gwen. I too, am in awe of her writing abilities. Thank you for stopping by!
I am impressed. How amazing to have such a successful series. But it simply is a good book series idea. I love how the book covers are so similar to be recognized. You have an awesome friend. Congratulations on both of you.
Erika ~ thank you. I am so blessed to have Jan as my friend. I feel like we are such kindred spirits. <3
Reading the post and seeing your photo, it felt like you were kindred spirits. A real gift that supports your purposes too😊
Thank you for stopping by, Erika. I totally agree with you about the book covers. They make it easy to recognize that they are part of a series. I do have an awesome friend. 🙂
And I am happy I am connected with Parris’ awesome friend 😊
50 books in 40 years–that’s my dream author. Congrats on this one, Parris.
I agree, Jacque! Amazing! Thanks for stopping by.
Jacqui
Well, Jacqui ~ somehow I was kicked out of my reply to you. Thank you. I have been very, very fortunate to be paid to pursue my passion. <3
This sounds like a great series! Congrats on your new release, Parris!
Thanks for hosting her today, Jan 🙂
D.L. ~ thank you for taking time to post a kind comment and the best of luck to you in your writing career! <3
Thank you for stopping by Denise! It is a great series!
Fifty novels! Wow! I am glad to meet Parris here. Thank you Jan for this terrific post. Wishing her all the best with her new release.
Balroop, somehow I misplaced my reply. My apologies. And I think this is actually novel #51. <3
I know what you mean, Balroop! Thank you for stopping by! It was my pleasure to host her.
Oh, I’ve been looking for another historical romance to read and this one sounds intriguing. Thanks for sharing!
Oh how wonderful, Mary!! I know you will enjoy this saga!!! Thank you for stopping by!
Balroop ~ actually, I think it is 51 novels now, but you have to remember I have been selling professionally for 50 years, but I wrote my first novel (a three-pager I pecked out on an old Royal typewriter) at the age of five. My mom saved it for me, and it is packed away somewhere. <3
Hooray, Mary! Of the five-volume Texicans saga, I think Vol. IV, The Bravados, ending with the Great Galveston Hurricane, is my favorite. <3
That’s an incredible background, and an impressive volume of work. All the best with your new story.
I agree, Craig! Thanks for stopping by!
Coldhandboyack ~ thank you! I have been at this, a hack you might say I am, for fifty years of actually selling stories for a living. <3
I wouldn’t call you a hack. I’m impressed by your longevity and commitment.
Almost fifty novels – what an accomplishment! And this one sounds wonderful – best wishes to Parris with her new release!
She is such an accomplished writer, Teri! I’m happy you stopped by to help spread the word about the latest from Parris!
Teri, thank you for taking time to stop by and post. Reviews are a writer’s life blood, so I would be dancing on sunshine if you have time to leave a review for any one of my fifty-one novels. <3
This sounds like sweeping epic saga! Congratulations to Parris on the release of her latest book baby. Sending her wishes for all the best.
Thanks for sharing, Jan!
Mae Clair ~ thank you. The five book series took 4-1/2 years to write along with thinning hair, (from angsting) decaying teeth (from gnashing), and many a sleepless night (from characters prying me awake), but following one’s passion has been well worth the effort. Always. <3
Parris, you have me grinning and nodding in complete understanding with your comment. And what you accomplished is a true labor of love!
It truly is a sweeping epic saga, Mae. I hope one day to be watching it on Netflix! Thank you for stopping by. It’s my pleasure to host!
Sounds wonderful—not just the book, but the whole series. Wishing Parris loads of success with her release.
Thanks for hosting her, Jan.
Staci ~ thank you. Jan is the best. She has a heart bigger than Texas! <3
She is a sweetheart. I adore her.
Nice to “meet” you here, Parris. I was supposed to meet you a while ago in Arkansas, but I’m sorry to say it never happened. Better late than never, even if it is via a blog rather than in person.
RATS, Staci I would have been dancing on sunshine to connect with you. I am moving to Queretaro, Mexico at summer’s end, and we will just have to connect there, mi amiga! <3
I’m blushing again, Parris. 🙂
Now that’s an invitation that’s going to be hard to pass up, Parris. Don’t be surprised if I turn up at your doorstep!
The entire series is SO good, Staci! Thank you for stopping by today and it is my pleasure to host Parris!
Of that I have no doubt, Jan.
Congratulations to Parris for her new release! I hope she gets a ton of books sold. 🙂
Thank you, Yvette (love your name) ~ and so do I (hope I sell a ton of books), as I have decided this past week to up and moved back to Mexico (Queretaro) and will need the pesos!
Happy travels! 🙂
Thank you for stopping by, Yvette! I also hope she sells a ton of these amazing books!
This looks like a fun read. Best of luck to Parris 🙂
Thanks for sharing, Jan 🙂
Harmony ~ Jan is the best in the West! And for that matter in the South, East, and North, too! <3
Oh my goodness, Parris. Now I’m blushing. 🙂
It’s my pleasure to host, Harmony! Thank you for stopping by!
Set it Texas? It has to be good. Thanks for hosting today, Jan, and best wishes to Parris on the new release.
Joan, thank you. One of my long-time friends and also a best selling writer for Silhouette’s romance series was named Joan Hall, and for a split-second, when I saw your name I thought our multi-talented Jan Sikes was channeling her! <3
How interesting. I used to read Silhouette back in the day. Don’t recall reading any of her books.
You know what, Joan, I wrote for Silhouette back in the day. Joan may have written for Dell or Harlequin. It has been many years, alas. <3
Lol, Parris. That would be pretty amazing, wouldn’t it? 🙂
Lol, Joan. I agree. I love reading Texas stories. And this one goes WAY back to before there was a Texas. Thanks for stopping by!
This sounds like a great read, Jan. Thanks for hosting, Parris today!
Jill, I trust it is, as it syphoned my life’s blood ~ as happens to all writers whose veins run with their passion. <3
The entire series is a great read, Jill! Thank you for stopping by today and helping spread the word!! It’s my pleasure to host!
