Poetic Justice – #NewRelease @DAntion @WillowWillers

It’s with great pleasure that I turn my blog over to Dan Antion and Willow Willers today so they can tell you more about their new co-authored book, Poetic Justice!

Jan, Willow and I would like to thank you for hosting us. We appreciate your support very much. I understand you have a few questions for us.

Jan:

Yes, I do! Dan, Willow, you’ve spread the book launch out over a long period. I know that I’m wrapping up the process, so I have to ask, how do you feel now that this project is finished?

Dan:

I’m still excited about the book, but there’s a real sense of relief, Jan. We worked on this book for over a year, and it felt great when the final draft was complete, but as you know, there’s still so much work to be done. I am very happy with the book but it’s nice to settle down.

Reflecting on the process, I have to say, I couldn’t be happier with the way it worked. From the first email I sent to Willow, to the rush to get the launch ready, she was a joy to work with.

Willow:

I loved every minute of the process and yes, once the flurry and excitement of the launch was over I felt relief and honestly exhausted! Definitely in a good way though.

The whole experience was such a huge learning curve for me and I am so grateful to Dan who was so patient and kind.

Jan:

Willow, although you have poetry published in anthologies, this is the first novel you’ve been involved with. What did you think of the process?

Willow:

Writing poetry for an anthology is very different to collaborating on a novel. In an anthology you know the subject and you write on that subject. You don’t really have to collaborate with anyone. Working with Dan on a novel was a whole new ball game.

It was amazing to be so involved in writing a story…to see the plot evolving in front of my eyes was magical. I have read all of Dan’s books, so it was really great to be surrounded by familiar characters…After I agreed to work with Dan, he told me what he wanted and I did what I thought was needed.  Yet very soon we were discussing every twist and turn, and the poet soon became as real voice in my head as all of the rest of Dan’s characters . It soon became much more than a poem here and there.

Jan:

Dan, you’ve had quite a run on Amazon. Can I assume you have another project in the works?

Dan:

I do have a work in process, Jan, but it’s probably 10-12 months out. I’ve been retired for six years, and I’ve published six books so, if the math continues to work, that’s my pace. I’m also beginning to think about a collection of short stories. I have about 25 that I like.

Jan:

Willow, your blog covers a wide range of topics, from poetry to a long running serial story, has this project changed your plans in any way?

Willow:

No Jan I don’t have any plans to change my blog I like it the way it is. But I do have several serials in my archives that I might like to turn into books…

Am I brave enough to take the next step…

‌Jan:

Are there any plans for a sequel to this story?

Dan:

Not specifically for this story, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Brody Thompson back in Pittsburgh at some point. I like him. I do hope to continue the Rascal Todd series, but I want the stories to be independent.

Blurb:

Trevor Barcroft enlists the help of crime and mystery writer Brody Thompson to help solve his father’s murder — a murder the police and the FBI are ignoring.  Rascal Todd wants to help, but her editor keeps her away from the story. Why?  What was Wilson Barcroft doing at Gateway Park the night he was killed?  Who is the mysterious Poet? What do the odd bits of poetry he has spread around mean? Is the Poet still alive? Will Brody and Trevor survive?  Join Rascal and her friends and coworkers as they try to help from the sidelines without becoming targets in an ever-growing list of deadly crimes. Real life turns out to be far more dangerous than any fiction Brody could create as the history of a war long over comes back to haunt the city of Pittsburgh.

Consistent with previous books by this author, this is a character-driven story with an ensemble cast sharing their concern and a fair amount of often inappropriate humor. You will fall in love with some of them, as they try to keep Brody and Trevor alive.

Series Blurb

Rascal Todd mysteries feature a tenacious young reporter with an insatiable appetite for investigating crimes the authorities can’t solve or choose not to. For various reasons, she’s not being allowed to work this case the way she might like.

Excerpt:

September 18, 2010, 2:34 AM: Police in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania arrived at the scene of a murder on The Boulevard of the Allies near Gateway Center Park. The victim, Wilson Barcroft, who lived on Elsdon Street across the Allegheny River on the North Side of the city, had been shot twice in the chest, at close range.

A homeless man sleeping in the park heard the shots. He heard a gun drop to the ground and the sound of a man running away, but he didn’t see the shooter. He did see a man get out of a midsized black SUV on the far side of the street and retrieve the gun and two shell casings. The homeless man remained hiding and could not describe the man who took the gun, only that he left in a hurry. The police searched for other witnesses among the homeless community but found none.

The police notified Trevor Barcroft in Rochester, New York, of his father’s murder. Trevor drove to Pittsburgh, spoke with the police and told his mother, who was living in a nursing home, what had happened. The police released the body after a few days. Trevor buried his father in the plot Wilson had bought for himself and his wife.

The police had very few leads, no description of the shooter, no murder weapon, and no suspects. The pattern of the shooting and the fact that the assailant didn’t take Wilson’s valuables led them to conclude that the murder was personal.
