DEA
Agent Maggie Holt knows about Hell…

After
eighteen months undercover in a Mexican cartel, Maggie is broken. The
kickass agent she once was, is gone, leaving her riddled with guilt
and nightmares. Forced to take paid leave, Maggie accepts the offer
of a vacation on the ranch of the man who’d rescued her from an
almost certain death.

Frank
Stein knows the signs of PTSD, he’d suffered the symptoms himself
as Chief Petty Officer of SEAL Team Five. Honorably retired from
duty, Frank has found peace at the family ranch and hopes it will do
the same for Magdalena. Ever since he’d first met her when she was
interrogating his buddy, Jared, Frank has been fascinated by the
raven-haired beauty and wants the chance to see where their
relationship could go.

Adam
O’Connor is Maggie’s partner. He knows her. He loved her once and
could again, if she’d let him in. But he’s also angry she took
the chances she did by going undercover against orders. And now,
things are different. She’s different.

When
a right-wing militia group infiltrates the area, will DEA Agent
Maggie Holt, her partner, Adam O’Connor, and ex-SEAL Chief Frank
Stein be able to set aside their differences to stop them before
someone dies? And who will Maggie choose, the handsome cowboy, or her
charismatic DEA partner?

With three separate romances going on in this story, I loved all the different aspects of each one. DEA agent, Maggie Holt, is suffering from PTSD and attempting to recover after being held captive by a ruthless Mexican drug cartel. The bouts of PTSD bring her to her knees. Frank Stein, former Chief Petty Officer Navy SEAL team leader, simply wants to enjoy retirement and ranch life. The ranch seems the perfect place for Maggie to recover. He hadn’t counted on falling for the beautiful woman he is trying to help. And, he also hadn’t counted on a drug cartel moving their operation into the area and using stolen cattle for a cover. Adam (Maggie’s former lover) and Amanda (the tough DEA woman in charge) are another romance in the making, as are Frank’s mother and the ranch foreman. This story is full of action. Each chapter takes the reader into a different POV and sometimes a different setting. But, as this author so often does, she ties all of the different threads together to bring the story to a satisfactory conclusion. Tough female protagonists and even tougher male protagonists with soft hearts make for a delightful romantic read with tons of suspense where the bad guys are clever and deadly. The author left this story open for a sequel and I look forward to reading it. There are many characters in this book, and I struggled at times, to keep them straight as to who was who. I definitely think it would be helpful to come into this story with some more background by reading Maggie’s Revenge first. I highly recommend this book, but also suggest that you read the previous book first just to make the characters, their roles, and relationships easier to follow.

I’m enjoying following Jacquie around on her tour. Nice review, Jan. I just started this series last night and look forward to working my way up to this book.

  2. Congratulations to Jacquie on her latest release and a treat of review for her book!

Jan, a terrific review and I like how you describe the different POVs and how well Jacquie has hold of the numerous threads. Even from your post here I can tell there are a lot of characters and a great hint to read the previous book first!

    1. You are right, Annika. There are a lot of characters in this story and at times, I struggled to figure out who was who. 🙂 But the story is very well written and intricately woven together. Thank you for stopping by and supporting Jacquie today!

    2. This is the 7th book in the series, Annika. While it can be read as a standalone, the characters from the previous stories ARE entwined throughout.
      Thanks for stopping by!

      1. Jacquie, I’m in awe of seven books no matter a series of them! 😀 A wonderful feat and you must have copious notes of all the characters, their engagements and storylines!

  3. Hi,
This sounds like a book I would like to read. I’ve read a SEAL Series by Aliyah Burke and love it.
So I’ll try this book for sure.
Thank you for your book review. It convinced me.

    1. This is a really good book, Pat, with lots of romance mixed with tons of action, danger, and heart-stopping moments of PTSD. I do recommend reading “Maggie’s Revenge” first just to have a better picture of the characters and the roles they play. Thank you for stopping by!

  4. I’ve read and enjoyed Maggie’s Revenge, so I have no doubt I’d enjoy this one. Thanks for your thoughts, Jan. Best wishes to Jacquie.

    2. Thanks, Mae. Maggie actually first shows up in Tidal Falls (Book 1 in the series) and is captured by the Mexican cartel. Her story carries on throughout the series. She’s been through a tough time, but with help from her friends, hopefully her life will get easier. 🙂

    1. Yay, thank you, Jill! Bio’s are tricky. How to strike a friendly note, yet be professional at the same time? I’ve tweaked mine at least a hundred times, lol

  6. Wonderful review and spotlight, Jan. I’ve got the book on my kindle and hope to read it soon. Congratulations, Jacquie. The SEAL’s Temptation has captured the net and the heart of readers. 😊

    1. Thank you for stopping by to support Jacquie today, Gwen. I do recommend reading “Maggie’s Revenge” first. For me, it was a struggle to figure out all the characters without reading the first book. I know you are going to enjoy the story!
