THROWBACK THURSDAY

The next book up from my backlist I published June 26, 2020. It was the grand prize winner in a short story contest.

The idea for this story came from a conversation I had with my late husband’s cousin. It’s no secret that Rick Sikes spent fifteen years in Leavenworth Penitentiary for a crime he didn’t commit. While he had knowledge of the bank robberies he was convicted of, he never went in a bank and robbed it.

But back to that conversation. Rick’s cousin truly loved him and never believed he was guilty. But she suggested to me that perhaps his brother had committed the crime and that Rick had taken the fall for him. While that was not true, it certainly sparked an idea for a story.

It was a very different story for me to write as it has a lot of violence and huge dysfunctional family dynamics. I have to say I enjoyed putting it together, though.

Here’s the book trailer. I hope you enjoy it!

And if that got your attention, here’s the PURCHASE LINK!

If you pick it up, I hope you enjoy! Thank you for all of your support!

  1. That trailer sure got my attention, Jan. But I’m sorry to hear about Rick going to prison unjustly and for so long. Does this book come in paperback? I’m definitely intrigued. xo

  2. I am sorry your husband was sent to prison unguilty and that for 15 years. At least, you let something positive spring from it.

    1. Isn’t life’s journey fascinating? He often said if he hadn’t been sent to prison, he would have been dead. The Universe knows what we need and will go to extremes to put us where we need to be to learn. Thanks for visiting!

  3. Jan, I love this story and think it’s one of your best. I remember our chats about this family story and Rick’s brother Bobby. It’s certainly possible and I can see Rick doing this. He loved his brother as I love you, Sister.

  4. Sounds interesting! And good to bring back/publicize our “throwback” novels. I too have one from 2020 –a Wild Rose novella–that also won a prize. Hmmm

I'd love to hear your thoughts!
