Throwback Thursday – Brazos Wind

It’s time to share another of my older titles and next up is a western, Brazos Wind!

As with many of my stories, the inspiration for this one came from a song. Music artist, Phil Hamilton is well known on the Texas music festival circuit and I’ve always enjoyed his show.

During COVID, when musicians had no venues in which to play, they started doing Facebook concerts to keep trying to earn a few dollars and share their passion.

As I listened to Phil perform the song one night, I knew there was a story in it.

I saw an old cowboy, weary and looking for a place to hang his hat, a widow who’d lost everything including her home, and the story came together. I really enjoyed writing it. So far, it’s the only western I’ve written. Many of the reviewers commented they wanted to know more. What happened to these two people?

I haven’t been inspired to continue it, so guess it’s up to the reader to decide the future of the characters. 🙂

Hope you enjoy the book trailer.

  1. I love your backstory and the trailer, Jan. We’ll be gone this weekend, but when I get home, I’ll order it. I’m already hooked! I just don’t want it delivered when we’re not home. By the way, I’m working on my review of A Beggar’s Bargain. Slow going, but going. 🙂 And I loved the book! Have a good weekend! 💕

  2. I really LOVED Brazos Wind! This guy has a great story. I’m so happy you heard the song and felt compelled to write a story. I hope you keep listening to more songs–and your heart. Love you, Sister.

  3. When there is a request from a view readers it might be worth it to go a while carrying the idea in mind. I am sure the inspiration will follow.

  4. I loved this story very much. The trailer is very good and the song perfect! Here is my review:
I enjoyed this little story but wanted more! One of the best opening lines I’ve read in a long time is, “As sure as the wind can change the course of a river, life has a way of turning a man’s direction.” Jack McClean is drifting and looking for a purpose. Savannah Logan has lost everything and wants to die. The story is about how their paths cross. I loved the characters and wanted to get to know them better. It is hard to write a short story effectively but the author has packed a lot into this one. This well-written story makes me want to read more by Jan Sikes.

    1. Awww, your comment actually brought tears to my eyes, Darlene. I am so glad you enjoyed the story and that the opening line grabbed you. That may just be my best opening line out of all of my stories. Thank you, my friend!!

I'd love to hear your thoughts!
