Hello, friends. As I continue looking back at my early work, next up is Jonah, published on March 18, 2020.

This story was inspired by a guided meditation, which is proof that story ideas can come from anywhere. In the meditation, I was asked to visualize a deserted island filled with stinging nettles, brambles, horrifying creatures and no way to escape. Then I was asked to put myself there and to transform that island into something beautiful.
In my mind, I saw a young man banished to this island for a crime he’d committed and watched him struggle to survive. As a result, I wrote Jonah. The tagline, “The hardest demons to face are internal,” truly describes the story. Add in a touch of magic, a strange boy who appears and a chance at redemption, and you have the basis for the story.
This was my first attempt at writing anything resembling fantasy and I truly enjoyed it. I never indicated a time period for the story, so the reader could determine for themselves if it was way in the past or far into the future as the entire social structure is different from what we know today.
If this appeals to you, I hope you’ll give it a try. And if you do, I hope you’ll take the time to leave a review. I thank you in advance!

I love the way this idea came to you. It sounds very intriguing., Jan. I love the concept.

I’ve never seen this one, Jan. But you’re right about not knowing where the ideas may come from. Maybe I should give that meditation exercise a try.
