#WednesdayWonders – #Gemstones #Shungite

Welcome to a Wednesday Wonder! I am going to reduce these posts to every other week, for some time management, but I will continue to share the amazing world of minerals that come from our Mother Earth.

Today, I’m sharing a fairly new piece I acquired — Shungite.

I wanted to get more than one view of the pyramid, but there is no gold on it at all, that was a light reflection through the window blinds. Pretty cool, though, I so left it.

The origin of Shungite is a mystery. Typically, materials made of carbon come from decayed organic substances like old forests. But the stone is thought to be at least 2 billion years old. This is before organic life existed on the planet.

Some theories of Shungite’s origins include:

  • a large meteorite collided into Earth and deposited shungite into the ground
  • shungite formed due to microorganisms in nearby water
  • the composition of organic matter in sedimentary rocks changed over time

Although scientists are unsure of how Shungite was formed or where it came from, they attribute the stone’s potential benefits to its fullerene content.

Fullerenes, which are found in Shungite, are a type of carbon nanostructure (CNS). CNSs are different physical forms of carbon.

According to a 2017 review of studiesTrusted Source, CNSs can destroy harmful pathogens. They reportedly work by damaging the cell walls of bacteria and viruses. Additionally, when CNSs interact with microbes, the microbes lose electrons and die.

However, it’s unclear what this means for human disease. More studies are needed to understand how the fullerenes in Shungite can specifically affect pathogens.

Since I feel like I am getting sick, you can be assured I’m taking this piece to my bedroom tonight along with the Black Tourmaline. I DO NOT have time to be sick!

Since ancient times, Shungite has been used to purify water. This is due to its alleged activity against bacteria and viruses.

In the above-mentioned 2017 animal study, Shungite was found to reduce inflammation. The researchers measured lower levels of inflammatory markers, including cytokines, or proteins involved in inflammation.

Users of Shungite say the stone has the ability to shield you from EMF emissions. According to anecdotal reports, Shungite is helpful for relieving stress. It’s believed to soak up negative energy and balance emotions.

So, as I said, you can bet I will be taking my Shungite Pyramid to bed with me tonight along with the Black Tourmaline and hope they can draw whatever is trying to attack my body out!

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you enjoyed the post!

  1. Loved learning more about Shungite. I’ve heard of it and seen it but don’t any yet. But one thing is for sure, I never leave home without wearing my two beaded black tourmaline bracelets. <3

  2. Beautiful stone, Jan! Is this a stone you would place in water to drink the infused water, or is it more a “keep-at-your-side” stone? Sending healing energy your way. XOXO 🙂

    1. This stone can be infused in water and it would be great for that. I keep purified water in the fridge and I think I may drop this stone down into it for a few days to help aid with healing. Thank you for stopping by!

I have the black tourmaline, but not the shungite. I need to add that one for inflammation. Hope you get better soon xo

Very cool! I’ve never seen it before. I hope it does the job and that you feel better soon. I know that feeling—I don’t have time to be sick.

    1. It is a mystery. But I don’t think we are supposed to know everything and we get to know what we need to. Thank you for stopping by, Erika!

  5. I hope you feel better soon, Jan. Shungite might be the answer. From what you’ve explained it has a lot of extraordinary properties — and it is beautiful! 💗

    1. Thank you, Gwen. I definitely kept it close by through the night and I believe it helped absorb some of the cooties from my body.

  6. I like the sound of the Shungite stone! It sounds magical! And the pyramid shape is beautiful. I’m so glad you shared about this, Jan. Thank you!! Now, you focus on taking care of yourself and fight off getting sick!

  7. What a fascinating stone. I like the asteroid theory–of where it came from. Or, 2 billion years ago, there were cells, must have been rocks, don’t know how all that works together, but I love the sense of mystery.

  8. Get well soon, Sister! As you said, not a good time to be laid up. This stone is very pretty but it doesn’t really draw me. Maybe it’s that I don’t need it right now. I love all things that come from the earth. Some are very amazing.

    1. That is for sure. I think you are right about being drawn to stones when you need them. It’s amazing what comes from beneath the surface of our earth! Thanks for stopping by, sister. Love you!

  9. Very cool, Jan. I hadn’t heard of this stone before. Strange how they can’t figure out how it formed… still so much humans don’t know. I hope you’re feeling a better. I know what you mean about no time to get sick. Hug your Shungite tonight. 🙂

    1. I definitely did, Diana. And the Black Tourmaline too. I believe they helped absorb some of the cooties from my body as I tested negative for everything today!

  10. I’ve never heard of Shungite, but I like the meteorite theory. Fingers crossed that you’re not getting sick, Jan. There’s too much of EVERYTHING going around right now!

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Mae. I like the meteorite theory too. I agree, There is too much of everything going around right now. We live in a very contaminated world.

  11. Two billion years old? My money’s on meteorite deposits. That’s really interesting stuff. I hope it helped you overnight and you’re feeling better today.

    1. It is amazing what things are hidden beneath the surface of the earth. I find it fascinating! My fever did break overnight, but I feel pretty lousy today. I’m throwing everything I have at it! Thanks for stopping by!

  12. Right now, I think we should all be hanging on to this stone. I hope you’re not getting sick, Jan. My office is being hit hard…I’m laying low in my cube!

    1. I don’t blame you, Jill. It seems to be everywhere. I spent a pretty miserable night, but kept the Black Tourmaline and Shungite with me all night. At some point, the fever broke, so that was good. I feel pretty lousy today, but up and moving. Thank you for stopping by!
