Happy Friday!
As we say goodbye to September, we have enjoyed more seasonable temperatures in Texas. I don’t know about you, but October is my favorite month of the year. I love watching the grands get all costumed up to go trick-or-treating. The days get a little shorter and nights a little longer. All of the stores smell like cinnamon and spice. It’s the respite before the frantic holiday season.

Have you ever heard of Cronuts? I rarely go into a donut shop. In fact, I can’t remember the last time I walked into one. It’s been well over a year or more. But in a weak moment this week, I pulled into one. And I found a new delicacy that left my mouth doing cartwheels. I won’t mention what it did to my stomach because I’d rather focus on the happy tastebuds. There is a new donut in town. It’s a mix between a croissant and a donut. And I am here to tell you, it is delish with a Capital D! Apparently, this new blend originated in New York, and while it’s a little more chewy than a donut, the taste is incomparable.

Don’t ask why, but for some reason, I thought of C.S. Boyack’s Dutch Baby recipes when I was eating it. Have you missed his posts about these morning delights? You can find one HERE.
In other news, Mae Clair’s new book and Book #1 in The Harbor Pointe Series landed! Did you get your copy? If you missed it, here is my blog post on release day along with my review. The Price of Atonement Release! Some of you may have already read it by now. Tell me how much you enjoyed it!
The next book to be released will be Gwen Plano’s The Gift on October 17th.

In an innocent 1958 American suburb, Shelly doesn’t know the power of a kiss. Or how it will change her entire life.
I had two totally opposite events with the Grands this week. My youngest, Samantha, came home on Wednesday telling me she had the most “freakishly frightening day of her life.” With these little ones, you never know. That could encompass anything. It turns out that a mentally disturbed man tossed a large piece of concrete through the school cafeteria window when she was eating lunch. The glass shattered, and the kids were terrified. The security officer detained the man until the police could arrive, but from all accounts, the man didn’t know where he was or what he’d done. Sad. However, Samantha said, “Then there was an upside.” Of course, I had to know. She grinned really big. “The teacher let us watch movies for the rest of the day instead of doing school work.” Okay. Well, that’s living proof that every cloud has a silver lining.
We also learned this week that my middle grandson will get to march with the high school band in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Dublin in 2026! Whooppeee. I’m already saving up! I can’t imagine anything more fun than returning to Ireland with family.
Starting next week, I will veer away from some of my regular posts as I celebrate a big book birthday. Stay tuned. There will be all kinds of fun and giveaways!
That’s it. Have a great weekend, and I’ll leave you with this.

May October bring you a month filled with happiness, love, laughter, and all your heart desires.

Hi Jan, never heard of cronuts, but they sound delicious!
Something to explore, Mark. 🙂
Hi Jan. Your cronut sounds delish. We have them here. I’ve never tried one, because they are no doubts not gluten-free. I’m kind of happy about that, lol. 🙂 x
No, the cronuts are definitely not gluten-free. 🙂 And that is something to be happy about. Thanks for visiting, Debby!
Lol 🙂
Happy October, Jan. And thanks for introducing me to the “cronut.” I try to avoid sweets, but will have to make an exception. And great preview of Gwen’s book. I love it that we’ve begun the roll-out!
Thanks for visiting, Diana. I can assure you I will avoid making a habit of getting cronuts. 🙂 My mouth loved it. My tummy didn’t. I loved Gwen’s story and thrilled that it debuts this month.
I was just away for a week, and can relate to the expanding waistline. Chocolate was the culprit.
Sorry to know about what happened to the child. But yes as you said, every dark cloud has a silver lining. Take care
Thank you for your comment, Swati!
Never heard of a cronut, but now I feel obligated to investigate for, ahem, scientific purposes.
I totally agree Pete. You should investigate but purely for scientific purposes. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!
My donut purveyor threw the cronut in for free on my last visit. Wasn’t ready for it–wanted the usual donut goodness!
Oh wow! That would be the only thing that would make it better – to get it for free. 🙂 How funny, Jacqui. Thanks for commenting.
I didn’t realize she was gifting me something special, took two days to eat it (which made it pretty stale). Probably all my fault I didn’t get the proper intro to this delicacy.
Happy almost October. I love this time of year, too! I don’t eat sugar anymore, but those donuts had my mouth watering. I will have to figure out how to make my version of them. Yay, for your grandson going to Dublin and the family joining. What fun that will be. How scary at your grandaughters school. So lucky no one was hurt. I love her silver lining to it. Enjoy the cooler weather. We have rain in the forecast and some mountain snow this weekend. Back to 80s right after. Happy weekend. Xo
You are wise to no longer eat sugar, Denise. As I said in my post, my tastebuds were overjoyed, but my stomach let me know it was not happy after I’d eaten the cronut. It is rare for me to indulge in such. 🙂 If you find a way to make a different version of them, you have to share. Wow! Mountain snow already. It sounds heavenly. Enjoy your weekend and thank you for stopping by!
I too love October! I am looking forward to the release of Gwen’s book.
Thank you, Balroop! I’m happy you stopped by.
I dare to say that the episode in school would terrify everyone. Great news about your grandson participating in the St. Patrick’s Day parade. You all need to have some patience but hey, what a great outlook?
Right! We are super thrilled for him and for us. And yes, the school incident was definitely frightening to the children. But the teachers handled it perfectly. Thank you for stopping by!
Always a pleasure to visit, Jan!
Congratulations to your grandson and you for another trip to Ireland.
Thank you, John! I am super excited for him and for us!
What a spectacular week for your grandchildren, Jan! So, so happy for them. 🙂 I love October, too! Enjoy your weekend! Hugs!
Thank you, Mary. I appreciate you stopping by and wish you a great weekend as well!
Oh my word! How scary for your granddaughter and her classmates. I’m glad no one was injured. I’ve never heard of a cronut, but I’d sure like to try one! Enjoy the weekend, Jan.
Thank you for stopping by, Jill. I, too, am glad no one was injured and pray the poor man gets the help he needs. Yep. The cronut is yummy for sure, but not something I can do more than once a year. 🙂 Happy Friday!
What a scary experience for your granddaughter but I sure love her positive attitude!!
It was definitely scary for all the children in the cafeteria when it happened. But she found the silver lining. Thank you for visiting, Darlene.
I love October. It’s also my favorite month. And now, I want a cronut!
Hope you have a wonderful weekend, Jan.
Lol, Joan. The power of suggestion. 🙂 Thank you for stopping by, and I wish you a wonderful weekend ahead!
Now I want a cronut. Thanks for the nod about pancakes. I need to make another one. I have a special bottle of hollandaise that was recommended to me. Seems perfect for some kind of savory Dutch Baby.
Lol, Craig. Yep. A cronut and cup of coffee—heaven for the tastebuds. 🙂 You are most welcome for the nod, and the hollandaise sounds like potential for something yummy. Thanks for stopping by!
Hi Jan, I like October as that is when our rains start. We don’t really have Halloween here.
Ah, blessed rain. How we would welcome that. Enjoy! Thank you for stopping by, Robbie.
Oh dear, I hope the man that broke the window gets the help he needs. Pretty cool about your grandson and Dublin. I am reading Mae’s book right now. It’s fantastic. A Cronut, eh? I’ll be on the lookout for them.
I had the same thought, Vera. The man was obviously disturbed. The police arrested him, but hopefully, they will make sure he gets professional help. I agree about my grandson and Dublin. We are excited. Yep, a cronut. Be prepared to have your tastebuds go bonkers. I know you are enjoying Mae’s book. It’s such a good story! I appreciate you stopping by today and adding to the conversation.
Autumn is always a happy month for me, so I hope it is for every one!
Thanks, Jaye and Anita. I appreciate you stopping by and leaving a comment.
Happy to, Jan… ?
Happy October to you also! I looked up cronut and learned it was created in 2013 by pastry chef, Dominque Ansel. I read the recipe but decided it would be best to find one in a bakery.
Thank you for an informative and fun blog to start my Friday.
That’s interesting, Karen. It took ten years for the cronut to make it to Texas. Or then, again, I never go into donut shops, so they may have been there for a while and I wouldn’t know it. Thank you for stopping by. I’m glad to help start your Friday out on a fun note!
