Friday Free-For-All!

Happy Friday! It’s been quite a week!

Where to start. This week has been super intense on many levels involving catastrophes in my family, but in stark contrast, it’s been incredibly uplifting and illuminating.

I’ll start with the good. I don’t know if you are familiar with Qigong, but because of the physical issues I’ve been dealing with, it was suggested that I do some of this ancient Chinese physical exercise. If you aren’t familiar with it, here’s a short definition:  a system of coordinated body posture and movement, breathing, and meditation used for the purposes of health, spirituality, and martial arts training.

I’ve said before I live on the fourth floor of an apartment building, and my balcony faces the east. So, I’ve been getting up early and practicing Qigong as the sun is rising. Combined with some tapping meditation, this has brought me a deep sense of peace and a feeling of well-being despite the chaos around me.

And there is chaos. As you also know, I keep my grandchildren a lot, and this week, at her ice skating lesson, my youngest granddaughter fell and injured her wrist. So far, it looks like it’s only a sprain and not a break.

Meantime, her sister, who is 12, is away at an orchestra camp in Oklahoma for the week, and she had to be rushed to the nearest hospital yesterday with a suspected heat stroke. My daughter, of course, dropped everything and drove two hours to the hospital. Sydney is going to be okay, and they treated and released her. Then, while driving back to the lodge where the camp is, they had to shelter from a tornado. Later, as my daughter was driving back home in the pouring rain, she realized there is some damage to the car. Geez! The hits just keep on coming. So, I keep reminding myself this is their stuff, and I don’t have to own it. I am here to support, love, and uplift, but this is their journey. I’m just along for the ride.

A health update: I had the BPPV evaluation on Tuesday, and that test was negative. I was almost hoping it would be positive so the dizziness could be fixed with the Epley Maneuver. Then I saw my GP on Wednesday, and as another shot in the dark, he ordered a round of steroids, which I hate taking. Then yesterday, I had an MRI. Now I’m waiting for the results of that and hoping it will show the problem so we can fix it!

Chaos all around. But one thing I’ve learned this week is that even in the midst of it, I can maintain a peaceful feeling deep inside. If I can do it, anyone can. I’m staying focused in the moment, giving thanks for every good thing around me, and being whatever help I can be to my family in their struggles.

If you missed D Wallace Peach’s blog post this week, I suggest you head over and read it. She said it best. I want to live each day like a dog!

Have a great weekend!

  1. Holy crap Jan, that’s a mouthful. I’m glad your grandies are going to be okay. As for steroids, geez, doctors love to throw that stuff around when they don’t have an answer. Been there and it’s a terrible drug. I hope they find and fix the problem from the MRI and you can stop taking the nasties. <3

  2. Bless! Jan, I feel you need the calm and peace of Qigong more than ever. Your daughter and her children’s traumas must have been very worrying – I am glad all seems okay for them now. Jan, I so hope you find answers for your vertigo and health condition – it is almost a relief when doctors actually have a diagnosis and can find a way forward from there. Sending much love & hugs xx❤️

    1. Thank you, Annika. I am thoroughly embracing Qigong and enjoying starting my day with gentle movement and a peaceful feeling. Everyone is okay at the moment. I have a Reiki session scheduled this morning, and I am visualizing abundant and perfect health daily. I appreciate your comment! Hugs back!

  3. Yikes. So glad both grandkids were fine. And love that you found a method to reach peace. Fingers crossed new tests will identify a solution to your health problems.

  4. Not getting an answer has always driven me crazy. I seem to do well good or bad, with a definite answer. You seem to be handling it so well we could all learn from you.

    1. I am 100% with you, Craig. Give me a diagnosis, and I can work on healing it. But without anything to go on, it’s like shooting at a target in pitch black. Thanks for the kind words.

  5. Not having answers pertaining to our health can be worrisome. I’ll keep you and your family in my prayers, Jan. I am happy to hear you’re finding peace in the chaos. That’s not easy to do these days. Enjoy your weekend. xo

  6. Oh my goodness, Jan. So many things happening around you! I’m so glad you’ve found ways to meditate and find your inner peace. We can all learn so much from you! Sending well wishes to you and your family! <3

    1. Thank you, Mar, for the well wishes. If anyone learns anything from me and the experiences life throws my way, then I am glad for that. We all have to remember that everything is temporary, good and bad. This too shall pass, and I will find complete healing or a way to deal with the issue. I hope you have a great weekend!

  7. Life is like that… an amalgamation of good and bad and we learn to live with both, picking up the positivity. Sending you and your family some healing vibes Jan.

  8. If there were a Qigong class nearby, I’d definitely take it. Very healing modality. I hope your weekend provides rest and healing, Jan. ?

    1. I have found some awesome YouTube videos, Gwen, and that’s what I’m using. Love the feelings and opening Qigong brings. Thank you for visiting, and I hope you have a good weekend!

  9. I’m sorry for all the challenges you and your family have faced/are facing right now, and I know it’s not easy to maintain a positive outlook throughout trials like these. The good news is, you are doing exactly that!

Here’s hoping you get some answers soon, as that will help strengthen your focus on healing. In the meantime, I’m sending you loads of positive energy and inner peace to add to what you already have going for you. You’ve got this!
    ?❤️?

    1. Thank you, Marcia! I appreciate the positive energy and am open to receive. Everything is temporary, and this will eventually be a fading memory that we’ll talk about at holidays. 🙂 Have a good weekend!

  10. I loved Diana’s post. It seems the best way to live to me! Sorry you’re going through so much right now, Jan, and keeping you and your family in my thoughts. Hugs ???

    1. Thank you, Harmony. I appreciate all the good vibes and kind thoughts. I agree about Diana’s post. I think it’s the best way to live, too. Have a good weekend!

  11. We can’t help worrying about our kids, even though we know it is their problem. My mom worried about me until she was 92. Hang in there. I hope they figure out what is causing the dizziness. xo

    1. You are so right, Darlene. We can’t help but worry about them even though we know they have to walk their own paths. I am here to love and support, but I have to remember I can’t fix things for them. Thank you for the positive thoughts about a cure for the dizziness. Have a great weekend.

  12. Tough and rough week for you! I know what I’d do for getting through it, but you have your own tools. You’ll be through it all soon. Take it easy this weekend. 🙂

    1. We each have our own tools, John, just as we have our own journeys and paths to travel. I am grateful for each moment of peace I can find and maintain, and I do intend to take it easy this weekend and work on my WIP. Hope your weekend it great as well! Thanks for visiting!

  13. I see all this chaos swirling around you, Jan. However, you’re inside this bubble of divine calmness and moving forward. This was my first thought reading your post. I’ll continue sending out healing light and prayers to all! Enjoy your weekend! I’m off to read the blog post. You had my interest at the word, dog. 🙂 Hugs!

    1. The swirling chaos is an apt description, Mary, and yet it is forcing me to find and maintain my center, so there is a reason for it all. Thank you for the healing light and prayers. I am deeply appreciative. I know you will enjoy Diana’s post. It moved me. Have a great weekend, dear lady and sending hugs back!

  14. Diana’s post was brilliant. I want to live like a dog, too. But your post is equally inspiring. I’m glad you’re finding peace through all of this and are mindful that you aren’t responsible for fixing everyone’s issues. Prayers you get an answer soon, and that it’s an easy fix. Have a great weekend.

    1. It’s so hard not to want to fix everyone’s issues. I’ve been a rescuer all my life, and it’s hard to sit back and let others handle their own stuff, but I think it’s an important lesson. And maybe my health issues had to happen to let them all know that Mom isn’t invincible. At least they are more mindful, and that makes it easier for me to set boundaries. Thank you so much for your comment AND your prayers, Staci. Hugs.

  15. I just saw the link pop up on my post, Jan. Thanks for that and your comment made me laugh. I don’t think dogs do Qigong though. They meditate and do yoga. 🙂

I’m glad that despite your health challenges, and the other health-related turmoil in your family (not to mention the tornado), you’re feeling positive and being proactive. Hopefully, you’ll get some answers soon. Have a beautiful best ever weekend, my friend.

    1. Lol! I haven’t seen any videos of dogs doing Qigong, but as you say, I have seen them mimicking yoga moves and love those. Thank you for the good wishes! My goal is to have the most beautiful best ever weekend, one minute at a time. Thanks for visiting, Diana!
